Wicked Dolphin Distillery — Attraction in Cape Coral

We've been on distillery tours...bourbon tours. Not being a bourbon fan, I enjoy those tours for the history and the "art" of bottle and label design, but never the tasting. With this tour I enjoyed it ALL, especially the tasting...and the "touring cocktail". I learned a lot, too. Like, there is a distinct difference between the making of bourbon and rum. Take the tour to learn what that is.

Our tour was approximately 45 minutes, ending back in the gift shop for the sampling. We made reservations for the 1 PM tour but arrived early and were able to be included in the noon tour.

I don't think we had to pay for the tour.

Our touring cocktail was "Wicked Punch" (Coconut Rum, Crystal Rum, Lime Juice, Pineapple Juice, Cranberry Juice, and Ice). It was delicious, and the best way to get us "into" the tour. Check the website for many more recipes.

Two of the three sampling flavors were pineapple and key lime. I forgot the third. I enjoyed all three. I wanted to buy several bottles but we were flying and already had full suitcases. They do sell travel bags and provide instructions on how to pack the bottles in suitcases. For my next Florida trip, I'm driving, not flying, and saving lots of trunk space for some flavored rum bottles.

The full size rum bottles do need to go in check bags when flying, but Wicked Dolphin does sell small bottles that can be placed in carry-on luggage. The catch is that they are only sold in sets of eight. You can choose any combination of flavors but in groups of eight.

The gift shop is full of a wide variety of souvenirs, in addition to their distilled products. It's fun browsing. The staff were friendly and helpful, and really seemed to enjoy their jobs.

Outside is a nice sitting area, where you can either wait for your tour to begin or enjoy a drink after the tour. In the evenings they have events that are listed on their website, which can include live music and food trucks. We had other plans, so were not able to enjoy such an event.

I highly encourage you to stop by if you're in the Cape Coral area.

This is a great place for an interesting visit, and also from which to purchase rum whether or not you are able to visit their distillery. Their tours are interesting and the rum is very high quality. They have won over 50 awards, several against international competition. Although all rum is made from sugar, all the sugar has been removed by the time the distilling is complete. Any sugar you taste in rum is from things that are added to it, such as coconut, mango, etc. They offer several of these fruity rums as well as some more complex and interesting spirits, such as coffee-infused or spiced rum. Their oak barrel aged 10-year-old rum has many of the characteristics of a fine whiskey and works well as a substitute for bourbon in your favorite cocktail. They also have a great recipe book for sale including interesting cocktail combinations and food. Their rums have all natural ingredients and significantly less sugar content than rums you might be familiar with from the "big boys" in the business. If you tour, you'll enjoy the tasting at the end, usually led by Jen, the tasting room manager. She makes some great suggestions for ways to drink Wicked Dolphin rum, as well as running commentary that will keep you amused. You're sure to enjoy some great rum, and a fun time if...

I recently visited Wicked Dolphin Distillery in Cape Coral, Florida, and I was blown away by the exceptional experience! The moment I stepped into the distillery, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a rustic, coastal vibe that set the tone for a fantastic tour.

Our knowledgeable guide took us through the distillation process, sharing fascinating insights into the craft of creating their signature spirits. The attention to detail and passion for their work were evident throughout the tour.

What truly made our visit special, though, was the friendly and welcoming staff. They went above and beyond to ensure we felt at home, sharing stories and recommendations with genuine enthusiasm.
