Absolutely the best place to visit while in San Diego. Carlsbad Flower Fields are easy to spot as you travel along the San Diego freeway. The flowers have been blooming in the hills above the Pacific ocean for over fifty years.
Just like the tulip fields in Holland and the cherry blossoms in Japan, this flower field is a must visit for flower enthusiasts. It opens to visitors from March to May. It has receiving visitors for more than 40 years.
With international travel restrictions due to the pandemic, we decided It's time for us to re-discover North San Diego's world-renowned spring experience for the blooming of 50-acres of ranunculus flowers at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad!
To visit the flower field, we first had to order our tickets in advance and booked our time slot. The ranch only allows limited number of people in at a giving time slot. So it's advisable to book the tickets at least two days in advance.
Weather is a bit hot during this time of the year. So dress light and bring plenty of water. Although there a few shops inside serving food and drinks as well as ice cream, lines tend to be long.
In addition, Antique Tractor-Wagon rides are available, transporting visitors around the planted fields, stopping off to let folks walk around and enjoy the scenery, and picking them back up are returning then to the start point. It's perfect for families with young children and elderly.
For the convenience of taking pictures, the ranch had setup photo platforms extending into the flower field. Lines are long on these spots. There are also a few spots with green platforms and stands that's ideal for taking selfie. One of my favorite such spot is in front of the fountain with a perfect flower field as it's backdrop.
For an epic photo of the flower field with the wind mill and the Pacific Ocean in the background, it's surprising that you can take such photo on Amanda Dr. that's north east of the flower field without an entrance fee. There are plenty of parkings here. Like every year , We had a good time at the...
Read moreAccessibility: there are handicap parking spots available but make sure you get here in the early morning hours or maybe later day because the parking lot was totally packed around 11:30 AM. Getting into this place from the parking lot is all flat ground, but the ground is tightly packed dirt (see photos). I did come on a day after it rained and I expected mud but was happily surprised to find it wasn't really muddy! I am an ambulatory wheelchair user and I saw other wheelchair users here at the fields (being pushed by other people mostly) so it is possible to come here and enjoy just the same! Bring sunblock, sunglasses and a hat, even on cloudy days. Most of the restrooms around the fields are porta potties (small and bigger ones), but they do also have a real restroom area near the entrance (enter then turn left...see photos).
Experience: very beautiful place you have to see and experience at least once while in San Diego! The ticket prices were a bit high (around 23 dollars per adult on 3-31-2022, a Thursday) so really I think this will be the only year I go; it was super cool to experiencethough! It is a very large place so you have places to go and see flowers where there aren't people around you 24/7. I came around 11:30 AM and the parking lot was full, tons of people, but I still had a great time! Do NOT step into the flowers or even in the dirt near them as employees will yell at you and kick you out of the entire place. There are cute photo opportunities where you can sit on a tractor and get your photo taken (for free), but you will have to wait in 10-15 minute lines when it's busy. Some of the photo spots are not wheelchair accessible as the spaces to get to and from the photo spots are pretty narrow and would be difficult to turn around in, but other photo spots are actually wide enough to get a wheelchair in and turn around with (see photos).
Food/drinks: they do have some food and drink places, but mostly like fair food (pizza, pretzels, soda,...
Read moreI’ve gone to The Flower Fields twice now and each time has been amazing! My most recent trip was last weekend on a Friday evening. I did not realize they close at 6pm and arrived close to 4:30pm but still had a decent amount of time to take pictures. My main reason for going was specifically for pictures so I can’t really review the flower fields as a whole.
Entry was $22 per adult but with tax I believe it ended up being closer to $25. To me that was worth it to have a nice scenic picture. I know they do offer more than just the flowers. There are little snack stands to purchase food from and they also had a few other areas to walk around (a pea maze? And other hangout spots to relax at). I believe you get your moneys worth since there is so much to do and see!
The flowers are absolutely gorgeous! I’d suggest going to either opposite end of the field. The left side has the least people but the flowers weren’t as full as the middle and right sides. I loved the right side of the field because it didn’t have people constantly going through so you have time to yourself to take some nice pics and the flowers are beautiful and lush there.
Only thing I’d say is a downfall is the resort that is directly behind the field. It’s a bit of an eyesore. I usually try to get pictures without it in the background because it takes away from the nature aspect of the flower fields when there’s a huge building in the back! Other than that I’d say everything about the fields...
