Mainstream Bar & Grill West — Restaurant in Carlsbad

I really don’t like to post poor reviews, but I think this place is just ok. I’m not sure what they’re trying to do? Are they are bar, restaurant, breakfast place? My friends and I went for the band. The Swinging Johnsons were a hit! Great music, great sound, nice guys! Now the food: I took a chance and ordered the Parmesan Crusted Seabass. It was interesting! There was no crust on the fish, sort of a seasoning, but no crunch. The fish itself tasted ok, but not particularly fresh or tasty. Then it had this white sauce on it…. Like the one you would find on chicken fried steak. The sauce was good, but didn’t really go with fish. Then there were assorted veggies, like someone steamed them, literally threw them on the plate and did absolutely nothing to make them look or taste appetizing. Very strange. The rice was fine. My Sauvignon Blanc was fabulous- I picked the priciest one - the taste made me happy! The prices were ok. The atmosphere: it looked like a bar, had a casual feel, still had part of the sign from the old restaurant up. New spot close by! This area needed a relaxed neighborhood bar. Great draft beer selection and big menu. We didn't eat, just drinks. Happy they can make my margarita with lime and agave upon request without me feeling spoiled. Just wish they had the big kosher salt and not tiny salt. Plenty of TV's in the bar and I can come back and watch my LA kings game here. Dog friendly patio that my gf is excited about. Can't wait for a welcoming and competitive happy hour menu so we can come back several times a week for drinks and bites. Kacey and Sunnie behind the bar were more than friendly. This was the most wonderful eating venue that we attended in quite sometimes. The service rendered by the staff was top notch. Not only did they greet you with the friendliest smiles and conversation, but they also gave you an education on the lay of the land and points of interest. Cassie our server took the time while we were dining to give us a handwritten note of things to do in the area. The breakfast and lunch were superb.
