Only dog park I've ever been too and I love it! The regulars are nice to newcomers and let you know how things are going (i.e. "she is growling but only playing", etc. As a newbie to the park, I didn't know how my four month old puppy would behave. She was nipped a few times, as part of the socialization process, but she has been a better companion for my old, toy dog at home. She is also becoming more gentle when she is 'biting' me during play time.
There always seems to be new people at the park introducing new dogs and generally, they all get along, with a few alpha moments followed by submissions. At times a few dogs need to be separated due to the obsession of one to another. There are some large dogs that are completely unaware of their ginormous size and try to hide under or behind a bench.
Everybody loves on everyone's dogs and even will share their water with others. While there is no water supply (boo), which would be an awesome perk, there are doggy waste receptacles with doggy bags, in case you didn't bring your own. Most of the time, everyone is keeping an eye on their dog to catch them pooing in order to keep the park nice to walk around. Occasionally, there are misses, so keep your eyes opened.
There seems to be plenty of old tennis balls and a few frisbees that you can throw, but mostly, the dogs chase each other, which is what we all want! Burn off that energy!! As in my own neighborhood, we know each other by our dogs names; slowly meeting some of the regulars by name as I become more of a regular myself after only two weeks.
At times, I've seen families walk near the fence with their little ones. I've yet to see anything happen except for my 13 lb puppy who wanted so desperately to be on the other side of the fence that she tried to wiggle herself through and got stuck! While I thought it was funny, it is still a lesson learned that smaller dogs need to be watched nearer the fence while not so nice ones could cause some harm.
I agree with another post that the park can be either dusty or muddy, but I really do not care so long as I can let her run free. If there was water for not only the dogs to drink but to rinse off, that would be absolute heaven. As it is, I bring a cage to bring her back home since she muddied my car front seat the first time we went! If your dog is freshly bathed, think twice about attending. If they do not get rolled on the ground from tripping while running, or tussling with another dog, they will for sure get slobbered on by some other dog. And for those that give water to the dogs there, some, like mine, play in it and get themselves wet and then muddy. I've resigned myself to a dirty dog and wash her at home (or not).
There are so many different breeds of dogs to meet and so many dispositions. It is really fun...
Read moreSo I just moved from Chicago where all the dog parks are free and I was super irritated to find out that almost all dog parks in the area require you to pay for a membership or to buy passes + show vaccination records. I could go on a whole rant about how that’s bllsht but I’ll stick to the rating. This is a GREAT FREE dog park. There is plenty of room for dogs to romp around and play. There is like no dirt anywhere, only mulch and grass turf so no more worries about the mud (which I’ve seen in previous reviews). There are little obstacles for the dogs where they can get some shade but almost no places for their humans to get some shade. They had a large umbrella set up but it was broken so I dont know if they have future plans to try and increase the amount of shade. They just remodeled and it is a bummer they didn’t add any water fountains for drinking or hose lines for those cheap plastic kiddie pools that the doggies could use to cool off in. In my experience almost all dogs love kiddie pools to cool off in so if there is anything this park is missing it would be the kiddie pools and...
Read moreMy female Cavapoo puppy and I really love this park. We’ve been going for a few months now and she’s always excited to go play and meet other dogs. She was very shy and timid during our first few visits, but now is very familiar with the place and loves to explore it. I love that they don’t require a membership to join, have upgraded their trash cans for dog waste, added benches, and have free water and water bowls for dogs. I recommend bringing your own water and poop bags since I find their bags a little hard to use, but that just might be me. We have met all kinds of nice dogs and people. The only thing I wish they would have is a separate area for big dogs and little dogs. My dog is usually more comfortable around the smaller ones, since she is at her full weight of 13 pounds. However, she has met some big dogs that don’t play too rough and has gotten along well with them. Other than that, we really enjoy this dog park. We...
