This is a nice trail with limited parking, maybe 3-4 spaces. We took a stroller and there were a few sections with big exposed roots, but my 2-year-old didn't mind. It was maybe 10 minutes hike from the entrance to the end at the water.

There was a teen couple that hauled butt out of there once we showed up. I'm guessing they were fooling around. They left a bunch of bait and trash when they raced away.

The area is nice, it has a covered seating area and you can see the old railroad ties and iron rings. Bring your bug spray. Bugs on the hike weren't bad, but it was at the end by the water. There isn't a lot of room at the end, mostly just a turn around and small fishing or reflecting area.

Lots of litter. It's from littering visitors and the tides wash a lot of trash up into the mangroves too. On the plus side, there is a trash can by the park entrance.

This was a fun place to visit and we would...

Loved learning about the history of the Cedar Key railway that stretched from Fernandina on the East Coast all the way to Cedar Key on the West Coast of Florida. The trail can be walked or (carefully) biked and the remains of the old trestle are still there. There is parking at the trail, but we wished there was a bike trail from the city to the trail. There was also some trash out by the trestle - let's help keep our trails clean folks! The trail can be walked in about a half hour or biked in about 15 minutes so it's a nice and easy one. Definitely worth doing if you are out...

This was a short hike but a beautiful Hidden Gem. The town itself was under quite a bit of construction so finding this Trail which is nestled down a side road tucked away so that if you aren't looking for it you would miss it was very refreshing. There is a warning at the beginning of the trail of the different types of species and animals that are dangerous in that area which I really liked because I had my four-year-old son with me. The real pieces from the train track that are in the kiosk was a very nice historical touch. The view is very relaxing and right...

Lovely short, interpretive, and free trail. Shaded enough to walk on a summer afternoon. Saw a few butterflies and learned about the coastal plants that grow in the area. Trash receptacles at both ends encourage people to be responsible with their garbage. Nice kiosk with some historical information and nice view at the end. The love of this trail is shown by its caretakers. Parking is limited to a few cars, 5 if people park wisely, though I doubt it gets used enough to be an issue. No restrooms.

Time---and hurricanes---take their toll. Visited in 2001 (see photos and note how this site has changed over time by comparing them to more recent ones), stayed at The Island Place and saw this along with a few other sites like the Shell Mound Archaeological Site, as well as paddled my kayak around places on Cedar Key. Not also that the "Florida's First Atlantic To Gulf Railroad" historical marker is at the other end of what was the railroad in Fernandina.

Cool little half mile walk to the worn down railroad trestle pylons. Lots of informative signs about the flora, also lots of birds, saw egrets, roseate spoonbills, gulls, et al... If you're in Cedar Key, take a moment to experience some history... Bring a trash bag, help keep the area clean...
