Cedar Key, Florida, is known for its charming, laid-back atmosphere, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a "quaint little gem." This small island town on Florida's Gulf Coast is rich in natural beauty, history, and unique local culture. ||These are some of the highlights that made our trip so memorable: Kim and I enjoyed our stay and the owners, Brian and Lisa, took good care of our accommodations in their cozy cottages. We strongly recommend renting their street legal golf carts. We enjoyed visiting Cedar Key's downtown area as if we stepped back in time, visited the historic buildings, walked the wooden boardwalks, and visited the locally owned shops. We browsed the art galleries and shops that showcased the work of local artists. The Cedar Keyhole Artist Co-op is a must-visit for unique, handcrafted items. We visited the shortest paved public runway in the state of Florida and enjoyed watching a local retired pilot taking folks on plane rides around the island.||Cedar Key is famous for its fresh seafood, especially clams and oysters and we recommend Steamers. The 2nd street Cafe is a must for a hearty and reasonably priced breakfast. The absence of large chains in the town gives it a unique, authentic feel. So don't expect McD's and Publix supermarkets. Dollar General was quite a distance away, so bring your necessary items prior to arriving into the island.||Cedar Key was the perfect getaway for Kim and I and especially if you're looking for a peaceful retreat with a touch of Old Florida charm. Definitely stay at the Pirates Cove Cottages and enjoy the comforts of a cozy, clean, well taken care place. Say hello to Brian and...

Living in a big city filled with constant tourism and traffic, evey year we decide to treat ourselves by picking a random place to visit on the map.
Finding Cedar Key was a stroke of good luck and following the same, came availability for Pirates Cove. Not to mention we were able to bring our four legged skipper! The perfect island getaway without the need of air fare.
As our excitement built, we had no idea of what was to come, but as tradition follows that was part of our adventure!
As soon as we arrived to Pirates Cove, we were immediately greeted by two smiling faces, Brian and Lisa. Brian proceeded by giving us the tour of the land, if you will, also providing insightful places/spots to visit.
We stayed in the famous cottage #5. Partook in the secret scavenger hunt (must stay in cottage #5 and read the guest book. Here's a clue, it's not under the bed.) and love every minute of our stay.
This little island is filled with bountiful natural treasures. From feasting your eyes on the local art talents, museum hopping to bird sightings, wave watching and rainbow chasing. A rented golf cart to travel is not required, but is a quicker mode of transportation around the historic town. There is a couple of "general stores" and more than enough restaurants to chose from. The town is also very pet friendly, so you don't even have to think twice about bringing your fur baby.
Overall, if you are looking for salty air escape from the busy Florida beaches, location is just a Ce-dar Key away. It will...
Read moreFirst off, the owners are extremely nice, welcoming, and take the time to inform you of interesting things to do in town, restaurants, etc, then they personally show you the inside of your cottage, explaining how to work the A/C, hot water/ shower handle issue, etc. and show you around the property. Very nice owners.||Upon first glance inside cottage, it was cozy, clean, and we loved the screened in porch overlooking the water. ||The mattress was not the most comfortable , but it wasn’t the worst either, we slept ,but not well on it. Saggy and soft in some spots.. ||It wasn’t till late afternoon/ early evening that our water view turned into stinking muck piles, low tide. It smelled so bad , we couldn’t sit out on the porch. Not the owners fault at all, not responsible for the tides, seemed like there were more than 2 tides a day, we had more times looking at muck than at any water.||Then the tiny little black bugs, no bigger than a speck of pepper ate us alive when sitting out on the screened porch, don’t know what they were but they were relentless.||The location is good, short ride into town on golf cart we rented for a day. ||The only reason I would not stay here again is because of the low tide issues, we really booked this to get a water view.||One more issue was that there was not enough wall plugs on the room,...
