I had a mixed experience at Chatham Bars Inn Spa!
I had a deep tissue massage and facial, both of which were wonderful and were performed by courteous, knowledgeable professionals. I have no complaints about any part of the services I received and felt very relaxed when I was in the treatment rooms. These treatments were absolutely worth the money, and I appreciate that gratuity was included so that all the staff is properly compensated for their skillful hard work. I also appreciated how clean and aesthetically pleasing the locker rooms were - everything was beautiful and very well kept.
That said, I do have some feedback about things Chatham Bars Inn could do better.
An online booking system would make the process of booking appointment a lot easier than having to call and speak to someone on the phone. I realize personal service is part of the price tag, and the ladies at the front desk were very polite and professional, but this is standard at almost every other spa I have been to and it just makes the process of setting up or changing an appointment easier.
When I arrived, I was given a robe for my spa experience that was several sizes too small. (I was not asked any questions by the person who gave it to me what robe size was likely to fit me best.) I requested a bigger robe from my massage therapist, and she brought me one, but it was also way too small for me to feel comfortable wearing it when I was waiting by the pool and in the lounge. I would have felt like my body was overexposed around people I don't even know, which would have been uncomfortable for both me and the other spa guests. A spa of this quality should provide robes to fit larger body types - I am a size 16/18, and I shudder to think what this experience would have felt like for someone with a larger bodytype. This lack of larger sized robes may not be something the spa owners have ever considered, but it's a critical part of feeling relaxed and comfortable in an environment that is supposed to be stress-free. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and anyone who is able to pay for these services should be made to feel welcome and comfortable without feeling like their bodies are burdensome. I spent the afternoon around the pool and in the lounge in comfy clothes, but would have preferred to relax in a fluffy robe like all the other guests between treatments.
The drink station in the lounge was fully stocked with water and teas, but had no coffee! I have never been to a spa that served drinks and food but didn't serve coffee. There was also no coffee on the menu that was placed on the tables around the pool. There were no snacks to eat, other than the cookies that were provided after the treatments, and when I was outside by the pool, nobody ever came to check if I wanted to order anything off the poolside menu. Being hungry for the latter half of the afternoon I spent there detracted from my relaxation.
I did enjoy my treatments at Chatham Bars Inn Spa very much, and clearly they have invested in hiring the right staff. I would like them to invest a little more in providing an inclusive and relaxing...
Read moreBad experience overall. Booking was difficult- I called many times to book treatments and nobody answered. I work in healthcare and have been working long hours due to the pandemic. I emailed them and told them since they didn’t answer my calls email would be preferable means of communication. They continued to call me despite this and despite me communicating with them over email. Day of our first treatments we never got a reminder/ confirmation the day day of. We mistakenly thought our treatments were at 2pm but they were at 12:30. The spa left me a voicemail, but I didn’t have my cell phone. We were staying in the hotel. They sent me a RUDE email with snarky all capitals and “...” finally they called our room 15 minutes after our treatments were supposed to have started and told us we were late. We arrived in the spa 30 minutes into our treatment times that were supposed to be one hour. They never offered to reschedule for us and we’re very rude when we arrived. We were not confrontational and we’re apologetic, but the women at the front desk were rude. My massage therapist was a redeeming gem, but my friends aesthetician was awful. She was rude throughout the treatment, not ready for my friend when we arrived, and let her out exactly 1 minute prior to when the treatment was supposed to end. Is is off season and the resort is quiet, but there were no efforts to be accommodating. The front desk ladies were then rude to us again on our way out. We canceled our remaining treatments and will never come here again. We think they might have been rude to us since we appear young, however we are both in our 30s with high power jobs. We have a lot of friends in Boston we could have recommended this spa to, but we will be telling them to stay...
Read moreUnfortunately my experience was not as wonderful as other reviewers. I visited the spa with 3 in our party and services were okay. My massage was good. It wasn’t anything to write home about. My aunt had a facial and said she got the bare minimum effort. She did not receive a scalp massage or facial massaging. She felt as if they slapped some product on her face and called it a day. My mother truly enjoyed her facial and said it was wonderful so that was the one good part. The worst part was the check out process. The two women at the front desk seemed clueless. They had no clue what they were doing. The one older woman was extremely condescending and rude and refused to let the other woman help her when clearly she had no idea what she was doing. She was rude to us when responding and seemed stressed. She ended up charging one card 3 times so I was charged over $900 in services on my credit card instead of charging the credit card I handed separately her for two of services and using the card that was called in ahead of treatment for my aunt and on file. She also never apologized for the mix up and inconvenience. She spoke to us in a condescending tone and wanted us to fix the problem by just having my cousin Venmo me what she charged me incorrectly instead of her just refunding the services. This debacle went on for 40 min. She could not help us and refused to ask for help from management until the other woman at the desk said they should bring in the manager. I will not be returning the spa on my future trips to the cape mainly because of the attitude and tone the woman at the front desk provided. Had she handled it with grace and apologized I would have considered returning. This is an extremely overpriced spa for a...
