A big "Thank you!" to Tom at Shoreline Sightseeing. He went 'way far and beyond in helping us have a great time along the Chicago River and on the Lake Shore. He was very personable, and kindly gave some excellent advice. If you are near the mouth of the river, find Tom and your day will be great. We were in Chicago last month for only a few days and we managed to pack in a lot of fun, and credit for much of it goes to Tom The architecture river tour is not t be missed. On a comfortable river cruise you get the history of Chicago, and learn about the architectural schools which over the years have made the buildings in Chicago sites to behold. And you get a great perspective from the river. Our 'docent' was a young guy, I think his name was Jack, he did an excellent job narrating. Sometimes those guides get carried away with their role. Jack made Chicago and the stories the main event, and he delivered his narration non-stop, without flaw, for the 90 minutes or so of the tour. He was great. After that tour, you should take the Lake Shore tour. This more distant view of Chicago also gives you the history of Chicago and Lake Michigan. The Lake Shore boat docks at Navy Pier. When your Lake Shore tour is over, there are plenty of restaurants and activities...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA huge disappointment. Today, Monday June 23, 2025, I invited my parents to the architectural cruise departing from Navy Pier at 8pm. Everything was in place for a wonderful cruise in superb weather. Unfortunately, the "guide", named Charlie (I think), ruined everything. This guy simply screamed into his microphone for an hour and a quarter, it was absolutely unbearable!!!! The situation was surreal and ridiculous. This person was putting on such an unbearable show that you had to plug your ears to try and stand the cruise. It was so delirious that it was like the guy was drunk or on drugs. It wasn't the first time I'd taken this cruise, and I regularly recommended this company to friends visiting Chicago, but no more. Over $140 for 3 people in these conditions is extortion, theft! To be avoided unfortunately... @Shoreline: you should be careful who you hire as a guide, it can be very damaging to your company. I'm also very surprised that none of the other crew members reacted or, at the very least, turned down the incredibly loud volume of the speakers. A very bad experience, despite the magnificent decor. Unfortunately, we couldn't wait for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBooked a reservation for 4 online. Easy process and they added a 10% off coupon at checkout which was nice. When boarding all you do is present the QR code from your email and permission aboard is granted. Seating consists of wooden park style benches. Bathrooms abroad are clean and fully stocked with essentials. The entire operation runs very smoothly and the employees are very punctual. Our guide was excellent. She was witty, knowledgeable, informative, and very entertaining. Her knowledge of architecture and history was quite impressive. Tour was fun enough for my young children who really enjoyed the boat ride and amazing views from the river. As lifelong residents of Chicago I wish we had done this sooner. If you haven't already, I suggest you do this as a day trip, Navy Pier itself doesn't have much to offer locals, but the architecture tours are a pleasant surprise.
BONUS: Right after the tour is over and while they're docking the boat, your guide will announce ticket sales for the Lake Boat Tour for a few extra dollars. If you take another tour right after it's pennies on the dollar, so plan accordingly and take advantage of a...
