DISCLAIMER: So before I start-- I would like to say that I have been to other karaoke locations in Asia before where the set up is like Tokyo Kitty, and so my review may seem harsh due to those previous experiences.
The song choice is limited to the application that they use in the bar. And at least for my group of friends we were surprised by the limited choices for songs that we thought would be very popular such as and not to limited to: Everytime we Touch by Cascada, Beat it by Michael Jackson, Business of Misery by Paramore, Dirty Little Secrets by All American Rejects etc. And I do know that they do state on the website that the selection does not have any J-Pop, K-Pop, etc, which is very disappointing at least to my group of friends considering how name is Tokyo Kitty, and they play Kpop and Jpop in the lobby
Unlike most karaoke places in Asia, there is no scoring unfortunately, and most of the set up for the songs are similar to those you can find on Youtube with the exception of pitch changes.
Confusion on room reservation. So, I had setup a reservation 2 weeks prior, and called a couple days earlier to ask if I could prolong the time by an hour, and the staff who answered told me "Oh don't worry you can extend once you arrive", and so without further thought, when our time expired, I asked if we could prolong our time like the staff member had told me earlier in the call, and unfortunately we were not able to.
The doors do not close. So you can hear other groups singing, and everything that going on outside of your room which is kind of unexpected because then what is the point of having your own room when you can hear other people. I would also like to add to this is that it is first come first serve, and so if a smaller number of group arrives earlier than you do, they simply place you in a room with the number of people that have arrived without including other people who will be arriving later.
Overall, the experience was nice just to see how they had it set up, but honestly you could probably just get an Apple TV, free trial on the app Sing! (or package for $1.99) which does have more songs sadly including Jpop, Kpop, and Vpop, and a microphone, and invite a bunch of friends over for however long, and buy alcohol...
Read moreI had fun because I rented a room with friends. That is the extent that I can say. I booked a room and the booking said that they would have drinks ready upon arrival. When we get there we are told to go the the bar with the flags and we do so. I stand there for a minute and then decide to ask what to do if I have a room. When I asked I was told to wait a minute I said okay and a different girl walked up and took us to our room where she explained our drinks aren't ready cus they don't want the ice to melt but no worries, she will put them in now and come back to check on us. She never came back and our drinks didn't come. We ordered different drinks and those came but the pitchers still weren't out so I ordered shots of coconut rum and 8 of the 9 people said they definitely didn't get coconut rum so when I went to ask about it the bartender snapped that she had poured it herself and it was what I ordered. I said okay figuring I at least got alcohol so no biggie. We waited again for the original pitchers and still nothing we asked and they said they would be right in. Nothing at this point we are an HOUR into our reservation and a different girl comes in (original still never came back) and says the pitchers were not on order and she gave me a drink for free for the confusion with the earlier shots. We finally get our pitchers over half way thru our rented time and they are very good actually but I spent my 30th birthday paying $400 between drinks and the room to be totally sober and have pretty much no service. I wouldn't waste my money coming back but the one server that actually helped was nice. We left at our designated time only to discover we left a set of keys, we asked them to check and they did, saying that they checked everywhere and couldn't find them. We then insisted on going in ourselves and low and behold they were found. Crazy how they looked "everywhere" for our only way to get home but once we insisted on looking ourselves the...
Read moreOur group rented a room for 2 hours. I have been to these type of KTV's in Asia, where they are really popular. I was underwhelmed with Tokyo Kitty. Yeah, it was nice to have our own room for karaoke with our close group of friends. The bar area out front was nice, and a nice place to hang out before and after our reservation. The room itself was clean. We had 15 people in our group. When everyone was in the room, it was crowded. Fine. But the room was not individually climate controlled. All of the rooms were controlled by a central thermostat located in the hallway. 15 people crowded into a small room meant it was stuffy and hot the entire time, and there was nothing we could do about it. The staff made it seem like it was a normal problem. Poor design. Each room should have it's own thermostat. There was an iPad used to control the karaoke songs. The app on the ipad was pretty outdated and had some glitches for song queing and other features. There were no party lights in our room which would have been fun to turn off and on for the songs and help set the mood. At the end of our rental period, a staff member walked in mid song and told us we had to leave. That's fine that our time had expired but for figuring out a way to deliver drinks from the ceiling, I would expect them to have a way to turn off our karaoke songs remotely and/or flash a message on the TV warning us that our time was about to expire. This place has been popular in cincinnati for several years and I don't want to bash it. But, for having a futuristic vibe and edgy business model, I thought there were several important details that have been overlooked. The rooms need individual climate control, the app for song selection/karaoke control needs updating, the rooms should have party light options, and there should be a better system to notify the guests that the rental time is...
