I go into this bookstore all the time to purchase books. Everytime I always get asked if I'm a Northshore member and I say no and the conversations stops. Now, the best customer service would be to tell me about the program but all the times I shopped no one has told me about the membership so I finally asked. The older lady who checked me out swears she ask everyone about the membership like a bible verse....yet she completely went through the whole transaction with me and didn't inform me of the membership till I asked about it. Then she asked me if I want to cancel my transaction and redo everything all over again. To me, that's just an inconvenience. I told her I have a barnes and noble membership, even though thats a big corporation the employees still inform people of their memberships. It's not like I didn't give this store a chance. Gave them multiple chances over the years. Yes, years where I have gone in and no one informed me of what the membership consists of. Now, the bookstore itself is in a lovely location. Just avoid the homeless people outside asking for money and pay attention the the people on the other side playing music for tips. All in all, great spot if you don't want to travel to barnes and noble......but Barnes and Noble is kind of a win for me. Bigger selection, no homeless people begging outside for money, customer service representatives actually help you find books and recommendations. So if you travel to this bookstore Northshore just ask them about their membership because they won't inform you of it. Also, don't let my experience discourage you from going and getting your knowledge from here. Their membership is actually good. I just didn't like my experience over the years.....STOP GATE KEEPING...
Read moreI love this bookstore, and I’m continually grateful to have this presence in the downtown area. I stopped in just to look around, then decided to do some early Christmas shopping for my family. I found great books for every member of my family (middle readers section upstairs for my 9 & 12 year olds, young adult section for my 15 year old, and then a novel for my husband). I even found a knitting book I had been wanting —original was in Norwegian, but they had a copy of the English translation. The staff member who helped me was charming, kind, and a pleasure to interact with. He suggested gift wrapping for the books that were intended as Christmas gifts, then proceeded to wrap 4 books for me (the store wasn’t monstrously busy; this was a Wednesday afternoon) while I browsed and bought another book. I know I will be back for stocking stuffers, as they always have such a nice selection of small gift items, socks, Pokémon and other game cards, etc. There are books that can be purchased elsewhere for less (though some of the paperbacks I bought were only $8-9, very reasonable), but helping a local business and employer and getting the service I enjoy is...
Read moreTo say that I was pleased and impressed is an understatement. I brought a group of 10 girls and their parents here for a Bookclub kick off gathering. The staff blew us away!!! The young woman, Amy, that sat with our girls telling them of all different books, authors, and titles, went far and beyond the expected. The girls loved her! She gave each and everyone of them individual attention that zeroed in on each of their own particular interests. She gave 110% of herself, and it was recognized by parents and kids alike! Thank you, Amy!!! You are amazing and have an amazing ability to strike up interest and excitement in young readers! I highly recommend bringing your children into Northshire to explore new book options, and ask for help!!!! I’m sure the staff will blow you away with their undivided and very knowledgeable attention! My daughter is still talking about how excited she is to read all of Amy’s new book recommendations. 📚 We will be returning...
