Very cool and spacious gym in an old masonic temple. I recently moved from Denver, so I was excited to see a gym of the same quality as the ones I had gone to there open up in Cleveland.
There's both bouldering and top rope. I've only bouldered here so far since I don't have any friends who climb in Cleveland yet, and the bouldering area is medium-sized with a good variety of walls, with different angles and difficulties. I climb around a V3 or V4 right now, and there are normally 2-3 decently challenging problems to work on, another 2-3 that are too hard but that I can at least try and use to get stronger, and 5-6 easier ones that are still fun that I can run through as I get to the end of my session for exercise and to wear myself out.
As mentioned, I haven't top roped here yet, but I've walked around the room, and it seems to also have a good variety of walls and difficulties. The ceiling is glass, so it's a cool area as well.
The are yoga classes that you can go to for free or cheap with a membership. As someone who doesn't do yoga regularly, it was challenging and fun, and the instructor was very helpful in showing me how to do the poses and correcting mistakes. I think there are climbing classes as well, but I haven't done those.
The management is very friendly and helpful. My job does some reimbursement for gym memberships, and the gym management worked with me when they had a membership sale at the end of last year so that I could charge part of the cost of a year's membership after Jan. 1 so that the reimbursement would be refreshed, even though the sale was over by then. And every time I've had a question, the people working the front desk have been more than...
Read moreIt's a beautiful space! We were super excited to hear another climbing gym was opening up on the west side, 5 minutes from our house. Unfortunately, however, it missed the mark.
I know bouldering is not their primary focus, but the bouldering is very disappointing if you're climbing at a higher grade than v4. There were 3 V5s, 3 V6s and 1 V8 in the whole bouldering area. It got boring fast. And they only have 4 colors so the routes overlap and it can be confusing. That concept seems a bit odd to me. They could set twice as many routes and have more variety, but they boxed themselves in. I noticed there were quite a few empty lanes on the rope walls too and wonder if that had anything to do with it. Or maybe not enough holds. I get it, they're new, I just hope they plan to expand colors and hold types (more crimps please)!!
Overall, the setting was ehh. Not a lot of creativity and quite a few routes that were...odd. You can tell they don't have an experienced setting crew, which is fine. But hopefully they have plans to send their setters to clinics and further their education because the setting can really make or break a gym.
Also they only allow assisted braking devices, just FYI.
For now, I plan to continue driving to the east side to climb at shaker, but I'll keep an eye on Cleveland Rocks. There's a lot of...
Read moreLol kevin tried having my review taken down, here we are. Truth hurts francais If i could put zero stars i would, the owner Kevin Wojton has soley ruined this gym. He doesnt care or treat any employees with any amount of respect and actually gaslights them when hes in the wrong himself. From internal issues of not being paid to issues seen by customers with routes only being half done from Kevin himslef being lazy and blaming route setters, i wouldnt touch this gym. He has no saftey rules or regulations and even with an official OSHA complaint filed and enforced Kevin still wont change his ways. All the equipment needs replaced in that gym, most of it is on its last legs. He doesnt have any respect or care for his customers either as anything staff brings up that equitment needs replaced is always out of budget, therefore putting the customer at a severe safety risk of equipment failure. All Kevin cares about is the profit made, which makes sense why he wont replace anything and is actually trying to sell the gym. I hope to god someone buys it soon so that no one gets hurt, it takes a elementary minded child to see how badly this gym is run by Kevin. Even the route setters dont get proper training, there thrown on the wall and told get routes up quick and efficiently with zero saftey and care if they get...
