Hidden gem!! Must see! We stumbled upon the Museum while going to the excellent Westside Market. (It's at the base of the Lorain Ave bridge, a stone's throw from the Guardians (GO GUARDIANS!!) stadium.)
It's fascinating. You'll see excellently preserved or refurbished old time firefighting equipment and learn a lot--what was the purpose of fire dogs and those beautifully restored fire plaques?
See if you can get Frank Novak to give you a guided tour. He knows lots of really interesting info.
I grew up in Cleveland but hadn't been back in a long time. When I googled for fun stuff to do in CLE, the Museum did not come up. I can't understand that; it's great for kids of all ages. And, they literally have an educational/play section especially for kids. Go...you'll love it.
Also, become a member. It's inexpensive and you get free admission...though admission is...
Read moreI really enjoyed this unique museum. I wish I could have spent more time. I'm leaving a four-star review because our tour guide, although he was nice. I will come back but definitely will not be bringing my children! :( which is extremely sad because the only reason I was there to was to teach my children about fire and...
Read moreThis is a gem of a museum. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable. Dan, our tour guide, took us all over the firehouse explaining anything and everything as he once worked there as a firefighter. The exhibits in the main hall are excellent. Who wouldn’t be interested in horse pulled and steam powered fire engines? The Gamewell fire alarm box system on the upper floor is amazing. It’s huge and very interesting as to how it worked. My wife and I definitely want to bring our family here next time we’re in Cleveland. I highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in fire fighting and/or...
