We were interested in the Night & Day Cabinet Murphy Bed and wanted to see one in person prior to purchasing. Comfort Zone in New Port Richey (which had overwhelmingly positive reviews) was the closest location that had several models on display. My review of the bed itself is 5 star. My review of Comfort Zone and their owner David Alarcon is significantly less. Quite frankly, my issues with this store are the result of my failure to do my due diligence prior to purchase. We were told: prices are fair traded by the manufacturer and are the same everywhere (we paid $2995.--which was after an advertised $400. rebate--the majority of other vendors charge $2797.)--the model we liked was the last in store stock and they are other wise in short supply(later research showed the model was in plentiful supply at numerous other locations)-- we paid $1095. for an upgraded mattress (the price of the bed included a mattress--a few other vendors that offered upgraded mattresses discounted their price by $400--in essence we paid $1495. for the one mattress we received) we were charged a "discounted" price $400. for shipping but most all other vendors (both online and brick and mortar stores) offered free nationwide shipping) just an fyi-- the 300 pound box was left at the entrance to our home and required 4 people to carry it inside. White Glove delivery and assembly offered by other vendors was not offered (and would be suggested for other purchasers).
The next store business day after we paid in full for our purchase and after doing my research I spoke with Mr. Alarcon about the fair trade, last in stock, shipping, reduction of $400. for upgrade mattress purchase and other issues. Acknowledging my lack of proper prior investigation and that I intended to honor my commitment to purchase despite my disappointment with our interaction (note that the invoice states a 40% CANCELLATION FEE) I asked if he would offer some price concession for what I felt were legitimate concerns--he refuted them all and refused.
The good news is we are pleased with the quality, workmanship, functionality and relative ease of assembly of our new bed.
In closing "caveat emptor"...
Read moreBuyer beware. We have a very small bedroom and wanted to turn it into a multi-use room so we decided to buy a murphy bed with a sofa. We found one online at the The Comfort Zone and went to take a look in person while we were on a trip near Port St. Lucie, Florida. The owner, David Alarcon, steered us away from the murphy bed and towards a convertible sofa. He said that since they had just returned from a Home Show, he would give us the Home Show discount for the in-stock convertible sofa if we bought that day (as it was the end of the month). We considered the price difference and the discount and decided to complete the transaction. However, upon returning home, measuring our space, and comparing the size difference between the murphy bed and the convertible sofa-we realized the sofa wouldnât fit in the space. We called less than 24 hours after visiting the store to ask for a refund, but Mr Alarcon informed us of a 40% cancellation fee. We tried to explain that we werenât cancelling a custom order that was being manufactured. We bought an in-stock item. We asked him to simply reverse the credit card charge since we hadnât even had time to schedule the delivery and didnât have the sofa. He again refused to give us a full refund. As a result, we paid $1,038 (the 40% fee) as Mr Alarcon said, âfor you to have the luxury of viewing our products in personâ.
In my opinion, itâs appalling that any business would take advantage of senior citizens, or anyone, by charging an unreasonable 40% fee for absolutely nothing. If his reasoning is that the fee gives people the âluxuryâ of visiting his store-well, heâll be able to make that money on the person that ends up buying the sofa that we didnât.
We learned an expensive lesson: there are unscrupulous businesses out there that would rather make a buck than do the right thing for their customers.
If I could give this store a zero star...
Read moreI Used family furniture discounts to purchase furniture for my bedroom. My experience from beginning to end was incredible! Marlon was my sales representative and he was wonderful, looking everything up online for me that I had found Online, since it was not on the floor or available in the store. Wilkin brought everything up online and priced it for me, matching the online prices and giving me a really good deal. I love that they offer assembly with their delivery and I took them up on that was a very reasonable price. The delivery went without a hitch! The technicians, Shane and Columbia arrived on time, were courteous and professional and friendly. They assembled my furniture very quickly, And a beautiful job. The furniture itself was absolutely stunning even more beautiful than I thought it was going to be and everything was perfect. Marlon and Wilkin made sure to tell me that if there was anything wrong or if I had any problems now or in the future to not hesitate to reach out to them. So different from other furniture companies that once you have the furniture they donât want to help you with any issues. That left me feeling very comfortable was wrong with my furniture or developed any problems that I could reach out to them and get it resolved. I would recommend anyone looking for a new furniture to use the family discount store in Port Ritchey. Look online first where you can get more of a selection, and worry not if itâs not on the floor or available out directly because they will order it for you. I will definitely use them...
