This is a fun place to visit if you're in Reno or Lake Tahoe, it's under an hours drive. You go off the beaten path, literally driving up into the mountains where they built the city. It's an old mining town that was once one of the many boomtowns of the Wild West. There's several bars and restaurants to visit, many of which are the originals from the Old West. The Bucket of Blood Saloon is a perfect example of what to expect when you arrive. There's also many other cool historical artifacts like the 'Cursed Faro Table', which supposedly drove several people to commit suicide after wiping out their life savings. The shopping is pretty redundant, they're all souvenir and chotchkie shops. Some of the shops have historical elements for sale, but they're mainly cheap antiques that are best suited for rustic decor. Not a bad place to go, it's a checkbox on your life's visits, but it's not the Smithsonian.

What a great place to get out and stretch the legs. This was a stop on our 2024 road trip, and we had a great time. We basically walked down one side of the road and crossed over and walked back up again, checking out the one of a kind shops along the way. There are plenty of things to check out, and it seemed very popular back in July. Staff in the majority of places were awesome too. Everyone had a great time, and we were able to leave with a smile on our faces. The trick is to get outta there before 5 pm, Virginia City is notoriously haunted. Most shops will close at 5 pm too, you have been warned... Have a great time. Highly recommended

Great trip for Trump fans. No seriously, the amount of one-sided Pro-Trump and Anti-Biden propaganda in the stores was hard to swallow for me. I guess they know their clientele. It is a very tourist-focused little town. Sort of a cross between Julian, CA and Gatlinburg, TN. There are some worthwhile highlights. The V&T railroad is good fun and provides some historic background on the town. The Bucket of Blood is a nice saloon to take the edge off and the Cider Factory is a great meal for a fair price.
