What a bad experience of management today I choose one star because that is the minimum rating available. As a member for more than three years today when i went there for my workout I was not allowed inside. I went there with my friend I forgot my mobile in my car so I went back to get it by that time my friend enter the GYM when I tried to enter door was locked. I was knocking the door thinking it was locked by mistake. The staff on duty was busy on his mobile doesn't bother to look. When few more members arrived and also start knocking the door the staff come and said we are closed. When asked the reason he said we are doing cleaning so closing early. When I asked what time you will close as people inside still working out he said at 10 pm which is a regular time on Friday to close. I told him that is a regular timing so why we are not allowed as per him his Manager said locked the doors at 9pm. Funny thing is me and my friend come together to work out he enter 30 seconds before me he is allowed to work out till 10pm and I can not enter. BY that time there were other members keep coming around 20 people all were denied entry with the same stupid reason of cleaning after 10pm. So, basically who ever come to the GYM before 9pm can enter and workout till regular Friday timing of 10pm. There was no prior information given before and nothing on the website. The staff did not even bother to write reason on the piece of paper and stick out side the door where as all the member who come after 9pm standing out side the door & knocking the door. I did not understand the logic of denying entry after 9pm to the members where as the GYM is still open and operating on his regular timing. Lack of communication. That stupid genius Manager who come up with that bright idea to lock the door at 9pm please give him my compliments for his superior Managerial skill and he should be nominated for the "Employ of the month". Who don't consider the efforts of the member who come all the way to the GYM from different location to give you business. LA Fitness is a brand it is high time to hire qualified and professional people who maintain the standard and reputation of the brand. Or someone can educate me that why when the GYM is operating normal timing and member who are inside can workout till 10pm and members who come at 9 or after 9pm can not enter when the cleaning is after 10pm WHY??????? From a HOSPITAL BED, I called the mockingbird location, and asked to cancel. I was told I needed to come to the location and cancel in person. I explained my situation, and asked to speak to a manager, but was asked to visit the closest LA Fitness location. When I reiterated, briefly, that I was in a hospital, the person on the other line promptly hung up on me.
Two weeks later I visited the gym in person. I asked to speak with the manager, so I could cancel and hopefully share my frustrations.
The young man who claimed to be the manager was possibly one of the most unprofessional and unqualified people I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. Not only was he dismissive of my complaints, but when pressed, challenged me directly. He asked me why we were even having the conversation, as he had effectively cancelled the membership. I suggested he view the situation from my perspective, and that going to any location, physically, after a major medical procedure presented an unnecessary burden. Instead of lending an ear, or even giving a suggestion of an apology, he was defensive, bellicose, and passive aggressive.
Beyond this terrible interaction, I can honestly say I never enjoyed going to this gym during my 2+ years of membership. The facilities are unclean, the pool over chlorinated, and the staff unfriendly. During my time there, 2 separate women related that they were constantly dealing with harassment while trying to work out.
I would absolutely suggest to upper management that they clean house, but I know that’s not likely. At any rate, this location has ensured that I never give this company...
Read moreUPDATE: I called Corporate and asked what they could do to make the situation right. Nothing happened. After I filed a BBB review though, someone from Corporate called me back and offered to fix the problem. Increased the rating by one since the gym itself deserves 3 stars.
Original review: The gym location is usually pretty great but I encountered some 'bait and switch' issues with my membership agreement. Told the sales associate I travel frequently and need access to any location regardless of level. He signed me up for a different membership level that does not have access to all locations. I did not notice it until 6 months later since the folks at the Signature locations I frequent did not say anything.
In the rare case that someone in management does read this, here are a few suggestions to improve this specific LA Fitness location: -As some reviewers have mentioned, provide some training to the sales staff to tone down the aggressiveness and to the front desk to improve customer service. These are the only staff most people interact with and it sets the tone for the rest of the gym. -My wife did not join my account due to the lack of options on the class schedule. Could use a refresh and some classes that are competitive to the Dallas market. -Have some targeted events or implement ways for customers to feel like this location is 'their gym'. Right now it feels very sanitized and corporate. -A filtered water station for water bottles would be a big help, or at least double check the water fountains to make sure they...
