This is my first time at Malibu Apothecary, and I like it just alright.
Pros: The location was tucked away with a good amount of parking. Confirmation email showed where we could park and what to expect. I liked that there was a 20 minute grace period in case of traffic and such. Studio was large and spacious. It had a nice lounge area to wait in at the front of the store, as well as a lounge area next to the tables to wait for candles to cool as well. Employees were very friendly and accommodating. They tried to keep our group together so that we were not separated. Their was a variety of different fragrances both in the liquid form and the candle form. They had provided a recommended mix sheet so that customers can have an idea of what scents they would like together. The sheet does tell what certain scents smell like. I also liked that there was an instruction card and it can be used to help us make another candle for next time if we want the same candle. Option of having a custom sticker made to put on the candle. Different colors of jars for the candles
Cons: There were a lot of people during our time. I suspect that they were scheduled earlier and were still there, but there was at least 20 other people there with our group of 9 so proceedings were slow throughout the whole session. When we were seated, we were not given any instructions. They had sat us down then went back to the other groups. We were left wondering on what to do for about 5-10 minutes. We had to ask someone what we can do. Wait time for the candles to cool took a while, but that is to be expected. While we were waiting, we were told that we can make a custom sticker to put on the jar. However, since there was about 30 people in the room, the line to make a custom sticker was very long. Some people took much longer than others. I think it is a good idea for customers to have a custom sticker, but there were no limits to what you can do, which made the customization long. There should be a a limit. For example: having a few set fonts, having pre-made templates that customers can pick and add to, a time limit, etc. If customers want to put their own personal picture, that information should be sent in the confirmation email so that they can send the pictures prior to the session. Pictures can be uploaded and ready to be customize when its that customer's turn. Custom stickers were not given to the customers so that we can place them to our liking. The girl who placed ours asked us how we want it, but I feel that the stickers should've either been cut and given to us so that we can place it ourselves, or the whole sheet can just been given to us after being printed. It's nice that she took the time to do it for us, but it felt a little unnecessary. The position that she placed mine was not how I liked it to be exactly so I will be removing it. There were premade stickers that you can use and it does say their business name. However, we did not know about it until someone from our group happened to see it walking by and decided to look. Apparently there was complimentary wine and snacks, but our group was not made aware of this fact until the very end when we were leaving. I think it was because our introduction to the session was cut short due to the large amount of people. We were sad to know that we didn't get the chance to partake in the complimentary wine and snacks. Large amount of people at one time. 30+ people. There should be a cap
Overall: The experience was alright. The candles are high quality. The atmosphere is nice and inviting. I feel that there are changes that they can make so that the experience is smoother and there isn't a lot of time wasted. We were expecting to leave after 2 hours, but we ended staying for 3 hours. The lack of proper instructions, misinformation, and long wait line for custom stickers made the experience not as great. I do not think I will want to return to...
Read moreA heartfelt thank you to Malibu Apothecary for making my daughter’s passion project such a fun and memorable experience! She’s 11 and currently dreaming of becoming a perfumer, so for her end-of-year school project, we thought creating her own signature scent would be the perfect fit.
I called ahead to explain what we were hoping to accomplish during our visit, and the person I spoke with was incredibly kind and helpful. They suggested we book the class on a Sunday since it’s typically less busy—this turned out to be perfect for allowing my daughter to dive into the experience and even record some content for the video portion of her project.
The day of the appointment, my husband had to take her instead of me, and I’ll admit, I was a bit nervous about not being there. But he quickly texted me to say how welcoming and professional the ladies at the shop were. They really made sure our daughter had a wonderful time—and she came out absolutely glowing, proud of the beautiful scent she created and thrilled to learn about the behind-the-scenes process.
We’re already planning to come back for more “day dates,” and I can’t wait to share this gem of a spot with friends for a mature, fun, and unique Sunday Funday outing. Thank you again, Malibu Apothecary, for going above and beyond for our little...
Read moreWhile the location was a cute studio, the class was underwhelming. My bf and I had arrived a little late (25 min) due to traffic and getting lost trying to find the studio. But after we arrived Claire didn’t even give us the option to make/pour our own candles. She stated it would take an hour for the candle to set after pouring. But after staying in the studio for an hour and a half, from her making us diffusers to her talking about her travels and candle inspirations, and then creating individual labels for each persons candle, it was clear to me that we could have indeed poured our own candles, as was the intended purpose. More so, she didn’t even have adequate seating for everyone because we were forced to stand for a class that per Eventbrite is a 2 hour class. Lastly, the snacks and drinks advertised is nothing special. There was candy, a very light plated charcuterie and box juice. For what was paid, the experience was disappointing. Going to find another class with a...
