When we visited Denver in late July 2021 this park was a homeless and indigent camp. There were hundreds of homeless people milling about. Though the majority seemed civil, there were several people who looked pretty scary. We were approached by a few looking for a handout. There was an odor in the air that was not pleasant. Probably from the public defecation and humans that have not bathed. Obviously, I would not recommend visiting this park for fun. We were walking to the Molly Brown museum and didn't know that we would encounter this when we walked through the park. It was a shocking eye opener. I want to publicly state that my heart felt badly for all of those people and though I know some of them have made terrible life choices that have led them to this awful result, I do not believe we as Americans in the richest country in the world are doing enough to help these pathetic souls. I'm sure our programs and efforts are doing something and having an effect, but the evidence in Denver suggests that we need to increase our efforts and try new methods. There will always be homeless and poor people in the world and I know we cannot completely eliminate all of it, but any sane person looking at this situation must conclude that we can do better and...

Oh No, We must not Let the Denverites become hungry, if a three day famine comes on Independence day
Will there be a famine or starving time in Denver in July 4th - July 7th 2024?
everybody is hungry and getting grumpy and irritable, and cranky,
Why would you ask that? There will be festivals, food trucks and picnics galore, and every restaurant and pub will be packed. Who do you figure would try to keep hot dogs, burgers, potato salad, and -heaven forbid- beer from Denverites on the Independence Day weekend?

Okay, who predicted that one? Some psychic? A televangelist? Some guy on Fox News? Or Newsmax? or was it some blogger?
Anyway, a three day famine is unlikely. It is, I suppose, possible that food deliveries might be delayed for Denver this summer. A natural disaster, a truckers strike, a violent uprising of some kind, would stop food deliveries for a few days.
Unless food has been in short supply for several weeks, most people could live off of the contents of their pantries and refrigerators for three days.
But, otherwise, whoever predicted the Denver famine...
Read moreWe attended the Denver Christkindlmarkt, which is in Civic Center Park, this year. Lots more room than the previous location, which is great, and LOTS more people...which might be unpleasant for folks with social anxiety. Very crowded lines for food and the Schnitzelhaus even ran out of schnitzel!
Still, we enjoyed our Bavarian pretzels near one of the gas fire pits, and the not too chilly weather. I liked the fire pits and all the room people had to move around the park once out of the vendor areas. It was fun to see the new lighted "tree" in Civic Center Park, and then the City and County building lights went on just before 6pm.
Also, a vendor booth called "S'moreshaus" was near all the fire pits. You can buy s'mores-making kits at the vendor and then assemble your custom treats at the fires. S'moreshaus does not build them for you.
I suppose this review was more about the Christkindlmarkt than Civic Center Park, but now you know! If you go to check out the holiday lights at the City and County building/giant holiday LED "tree," there is a free-to-attend German-themed festival...
