A client had hired me to document her and her fiancé's elopement in Denver and during my consultation with her she had told me that they wanted their photos to be "elegant and timeless". She had mentioned how beautiful she found the giant white columns in front of the Denver City and County Courthouse - where she was slated to get married - but during their photoshoot there was some holiday décor left out that was going to be difficult to shoot around and the harsh, noon lighting was proving to be a challenge to work with. Luckily, I had scouted out the Voorhies Memorial in advance and it provided EXACTLY what my client wanted: tall, white stone columns. Big, empty spaces. Tons of variety within the structure's framing for compositing. And best of all? That harsh noon lighting provided us with some outstanding contrast that worked IN our favor instead of AGAINST us. Bonus points: The City and County of Denver was real easy to work with in obtaining permission to photograph here.
