Hands down the best game shot that I've been to in all of downtown. While it's true, you can find many of the items online for just about the same price. That is quite the beauty of the place after all, is that it's a physical location you can go And shop around. There are many times I've gone in and discovered products that I would have never even known about if I hadn't gone in, like custom miniature sets for games that I am uninterested in, but are very similar to the D&D games that I run myself. The costume shop upstairs is a bit seasonal for my taste, I like a bit of the consistent wondrous emporium vibe that they have downstairs better. They host game nights and have open tables whenever one of these scheduled games is not in session. One of my favorite things they do is they sell the miniatures out of the blind boxes for their actual value. So if you're like me and you don't like gambling but do like collecting then this is one of the only places I'm aware of It doesn't try to steal your money when the wizards® do. The staff is very knowledgeable and typically has their fingers in multiple pots when it comes to the more advanced or "nerdy" games. I highly recommend making an account with them as it's fully free and you get points for every purchase that eventually Grant really fun rewards. They're one of the few places I know of that still gives you a discount on your birthday! It's like them and Barnes& Noble, but at Barnes& Noble account cost money. A pro tip is that you can check out products at any of the registers, so if the game shop downstairs is busy, you can always go upstairs To try your luck checking out up there. That being said, I understand if it's more about where you'd rather wait, as the downstairs portion is one of my happy places and makes me far more patient then if I had to stand next to a bunch of cracker jacks carnival tricks (no offense magicians, It takes skill, but so does water polo, that doesn't Make it any less goofy). Update: The good:The wizards chest costume department supports local artists for props like wands, armor, and other paraphernalia for cosplayers. This is a great detail I had no idea about. Thanks to Kenny for taking the time to help me explore my options. The bad:it seems that the front desk checkout people on the top floor don't know how to transfer you to the right department and insist on answering questions incorrectly. I recommend coming in person and going to the proper department or reminding them that they don't know everything. The games master and his staff on the lower level are far more knowledgeable than anyone else in the store. The ugly:it seems that the community aspects of this shop have been completely power washed out since covid. Their is no way to advertise your game in person anymore. The schedule is completely blank in the games room. The emphasis seems to be on the two escape rooms, which is a payed service. They also have copied a corporate approach to protecting their image. Forcing shy, awkward people onto their discord in order to find games and advertise themselves, rather than having a community board. This is with the excuse of not wanting to be held responsible for any poster/games content. As if it is too much effort to have your employees think critically and look up at the board every so often. This is a disturbing trend I've noticed across all games shops and seems to be advise given by chatGPT, it's no wonder nerds are a profoundly lonely...

This is by far my favorite LGS and novelty shop in the state. I could say all the things about their amazing staff (always friendly, helpful, etc. First, though, let's talk about their products.
The Wizard's Chest is just that: a veritable trove of wonderful things. It has an awesome selection of board games, tabletop roleplay games, costumes, toys, and novelty gifts, and they carry several card games (TCGs), including all the latest Magic the Gathering products. If you are in need of a game shop to do a pre release draft, this is absolutely one of my top picks.
The store itself is bright, visually vibrant, and fun to explore. The areas between products don't feel overcrowded or claustrophobic, at all. They have enough room that individuals with mobility restrictions can comfortably move throughout the store. There are always fun decorations and displays to give you ideas about gifts for yourself or others.
They also have pretty reasonable prices on all of their products. You do pay a bit of mark up on certain items when you compare to major box companies (like Amazon, Target, etc). However, the markup doesn't feel that substantial on anything I've purchased. Some games/items that The Wizard's Chest has are not easily available elsewhere. Some popular games might be a few dollars more, but for me that isn't an issue because I can always find unique and rare items at the store (even occasionally out of print games), and I like to support small business (with local employees), by shopping here.
Going back to the customer service aspect: employees here are truly great. They will readily chat with you about different games and items. They share experience and expertise, and are also open to learning from their customers when they hear about new things. The vibes are just good all around. Having a hard time locating something? Talk to the staff and they will try to special order it into the store for you. Looking for a copy of a popular, quickly out of stock game? Ask to be put on the list for copies when it comes in. They really go above and beyond here.
Moreover, the store also has an awesome loyalty program. This can often easily makes up for the difference in price that you spend on certain items, over the big box stores. It can even make things cheaper than you would ever find them selling for on Amazon or otherwise. The more you shop with The Wizard's Chest, the more the loyalty program gains you. You can earn discounts, swag, gift cards, and even shop-hosted, personal game nights for yourself and your friends/family.
This shop is really just a great place. I don't know how adequately summarize it, but I highly...
Read moreAs a native, I've have always found The Wizard's Chest to be a place of whimsy and delight. From a young age when it was located in Cherry Creek, to today (many, many years later) at its Broadway location, this place has always been a space where my imagination could find some tangibility and/or inspiration to grow and explore. I really love this store and all the fun items it houses.
After my most recent experience at The Wizard's Chest, I wish I could give it a higher rating, because I was blown away by the staff here. My partner and I stopped by The Wizard's Chest on a search for a new game to enjoy with one another. After perusing the many options for a while, we narrowed down the options to two choices. One of our choices was available to test out in the store's gaming room (which was awesome that they have that service available), but the other option wasnt not available as part of the store's testing collection. My partner and I were weighing the options when one of the store employees, Zach, generously made us an offer before we made our decision: he would bring in his personal copy of the game and teach us how to play. This may not seem like a big deal, but I was so impressed that this man would take the time out of his day to not only let us look at the game, but that he would also organize time to teach us how to play. We returned the next day and played a round of the game with him and another employee - it was such a fun time! Zach gave us the opportunity to enjoy the game far more than we would have had we just bought the game without any understanding or assistance, and we are so grateful he would make time to teach us, and grateful to the store that allows employees to connect and help customers this way,
This was something that went above and beyond any expectation we had from the store or employee, but it is this kind of interaction that makes going to The Wizard's Chest such a fond and memorable occasion. We absolutely love our game, and look forward to going back to the store to get more extension packs, as well as look for new games in the future. Thank you guys so much for being amazing people and for being such an...
