Needs improvement. Been coming here since our honeymoon in 2020 and I'm kinda glad we skipped it last year and a little disappointed we didn't have that great an experience overall this year.
Pros and cons 👇 You are nearby the in our opinion the best seafood joint in Destin as it's in the complex. You are nearby a walking distance beach and can use the gated area to park privately in case you don't feel up to it. It's "fair" accomodations per the average price to stay in the area. Nearby local markets for retail and food shopping as well as pharmacies and other needs for most people. It does have on site kitchens as well as washing machines most in units for washer/dryer but has on site areas to do so if need be. The pool and hot tubs are great but will be in cons as well they are poorly kept and against better judgement either the spa hot tub or likely the pool gave me a rash suddenly even though the main heated pool looks not....great we assumed at least they have been treating these hot tubs and pools maybe not? Have enjoyed over all yes but it's Destin it's the beach but regret using them to a point due to my skin issue
....Secondly on one of our evening stays here we visited the hot tubs prior to close and they literally have the rudest person who works security at the gate who came to the pool area PRIOR to closing to intimidate and verbally abuse guests to leave the pool early and if you did not agree as per it was not closed he just stood there with an intimidating stature to try to bully you I do not know this associates name but he's African American and approx 25 yrs old he needs an attitude adjustment desperately. The whole stay it was only he who was so disrespectful and not just to us the young couple in the tubs across from us it was barely 10 they WERE grabbing their things and my husband and I were already walking out the gate half way to the car and could hear him berating the couple about the time and using verbal intimidation shouting at them which was just odd considering they were desperately trying to leave on time the arguing with him and being hindered only made it worse I feel like we are rule respectful and kind and did not deserve to be berated and intimidated by a security guard with a cop complex who was acting this way. I understand giving closing warning , I understand a lot but be kind unless you are provoked to be otherwise. He acted mental.
Has upkeep issues (shower could been cleaner, floors vacuumed and swept better prior to our arrival and cups, kitchen appliances are dated and often in need of cleaning we left on the 30th of oct and are still finding things that should have been kept better. The bathroom lights my husband had to replace 2 out of 3 were blown out and thought that was lazy. Not to mention the toilet is like a rocking chair in need of being properly secured to the floor you feel like you must carefully sit and get up as it's so rickety in rocking you fear of pulling it up. This is a bare minimum thing. It's got poorly placed little ..plastic pegs to stop this this but it's literally like placing a matchbox under a table leg to even it out it's a quick fix. Repair it.
Condos sell here even in poor to moderate condition for 399k-599k est according the residents we spoke with the owner's and renters renters give a lot of money and yes that's the asking price often and it can be done but 99.9% of this resorts viable income seems to be people like us visitors! Fix it up the place and fix the god complex Of the staff.
Overall was just "ok"needs improvement to consider returning in the next year's we have a sentimental place in our hearts for coming here on our honeymoon but their are other locations in Destin that are less dated and cleaner with friendlier staff. Sadly the local amenities and areas should not be your best selling point as a condo. All stays have had flaws but this year was tough well at least we had AC and a...
Read moreWhile I often rely on reviews to choose hotels or resorts, I find that I don't typically leave reviews myself. After staying at Sandpiper Cove, I knew that I wanted to rave about this place to anyone who would listen! If you are looking for an affordable getaway in Destin without losing out on the amenities of a highly rated hotel or resort, I absolutely recommend you check out Sandpiper Cove. First, let's talk location. Not only is the beach right across the road and within walking distance of any unit, the access is private, for Sandpiper guests only! There are chairs and umbrellas available (if they are not included with your unit, they are available to rent for either half or full day) as well as a restaurant/bar and super convenient ice machine right there on the beach. In addition, there is a Target Market (which has produce, meats, and a full grocery store ) right across the street so you don't have to drive to Walmart for anything you might need. Should you choose or need to go to Walmart or Publix, they are both conveniently located within 10 minutes of the resort. Next, let's talk pets. Destin is not known to be super pet friendly. They do not allow dogs on any beaches in the county and there are multiple resorts and hotels that do not welcome fur babies. Sandpiper, however, not only allows your four-legged babes to join you on your vacation, they welcome all sizes and breeds. We adopted Sasha, our Staffordshire Terrier, 3 months ago and did not want to leave her behind during our vacation. After searching high and low for a vacation spot that would allow our pup to join us, we finally found Sandpiper who welcomed her as quickly as they welcomed us. They have animal waste posts all over the resort and tons of green areas for them to walk and enjoy themselves just like you. Not to mention, tons of lizards for their chasing pleasure. :) Finally, the condo itself was lovely. We stayed in unit 1034, which was located in the back of the resort and on the end of the building. It was one bed, one bath and stocked with everything we needed for a 5 day stay including a washer/dryer, dish washer, full fridge and stove, dishes, silverware, cookware, coffee machine, etc. The owners also provided a blowup mattress that slept one (or two small children) easily, and a fold out bed in the couch. The bedroom had a very comfortable queen size bed and the bathroom featured a wonderful waterfall style shower head. We also found a small storage closet out front stocked with beach goodies including a small tent style beach cabana, beach chairs, and toys for the kiddos to play with in the sand. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the owners paid for an umbrella and chairs on the beach so we didn't have to come out of our own pockets for that! If we didn't want to deal with the sand, we also had a pool basically in our backyard! It was one of three pools on premises and was clean and peaceful. The grilling area was also conveniently located next to the pool and had picnic tables and space for the whole family! My ONLY complaints about our stay were purely aesthetic. The toilet was placed behind the door to the bathroom making it a bit awkward to get in and out of, and the unit itself was a bit outdated. There was fabric on the front of tub (hello 1980), and the all the closet doors accordion style making it easy for little fingers to get caught. But honestly, that's just nitpicking for those who are expecting a totally renovated unit upon arrival. I cannot encourage you enough to check out Sandpiper Cove if you are looking for a great place to stay in Destin. I was ridiculously pleased with our experience (and the price!) and I have no doubt that we will be back...
Read moreWe had an excellent week renting at Sandpiper Cove in July 2023. We didn't have any issues or trouble, so we thought it would be great to come back in October 2023.
Only after washing a load of clothing on the Tuesday evening we arrived did we learn that the dryer in our unit was not functioning. When my wife reported the issue to their property management office, per their guidelines, on Wednesday morning, we were informed that this was a known issue and that the dryer would be replaced on later in the week. Their office staff told her that the facility contained functioning dryers on the property, and that we could use them to dry our clothing at $3 per use.
You can find another Google Review of this unit from the week prior to our stay with a similar complaint. The dryer had been out for at least a week. Yet, the property management company knew about the problem but failed to disclose it before we checked in. They also failed to accommodate us, knowing fully well this was a problem, but apparently chose to ignore it.
We packed only enough clothing for this trip because we were expecting functioning washer and dryer appliances, as per the rental agreement and description. However, we did not receive a functioning dyer, per the rental agreement and description.
Secondly, we are not hauling our clothing across the property to sit and wait for a dryer to dry all of our clothing. This requires quite a bit of vacation time, and frankly we paid for this vacation expecting that the appliances in the unit would function. Last, we did not create the inconvenience, so we are not paying $3 for use of dryers on their property.
Allow me to mention what happened on Thursday.
While we were driving that morning, we missed a call from their main office. They called to inform us that the dryer would be installed later that day and then gave us a four-hour window for which the delivery company would arrive to install the dryer.
We didn't plan to stay in the condo on Thursday because we wanted to see other parts of the area and ended up spending our day in Pensacola. I mention this because we assumed someone from the company (the owner, a staffer, etc.) would take care of the delivery and installation since we are renting the unit in the short term.
Instead, we got back to the condo that evening and found that the delivery company did not install the dryer because no one was at the condo to meet them. We're paying for this condo rental for a vacation - not to babysit their offseason repairs. I chose to believe that was not our responsibility. As a result, the dryer was not installed on Thursday.
No one called on Friday to clear up the situation, and I sincerely hope this was a communication failure among either the company's staff or the delivery personnel.
Am I out of my mind to think this isn't the renter's responsibility? Were we supposed to stay at the condo on Thursday for the four-hour window and not go anywhere until the company arrived and installed the dryer? That's potentially a four-hour wait and then an hour or so to install the unit. We're paying for this condo rental for a vacation - not to babysit their offseason repairs.
They refused to credit us or issue a partial refund because "no appliances are guaranteed." That's their policy. If your air conditioning unit fails in August, and if it isn't fixable, that isn't guaranteed either, according to their policy.
Future renters, take heed.
I'm leaving two stars because the cleaning crew obviously worked hard to make this condo look great. The location was nice, too. It's a shame they aren't better at...
