My recent retired Public health Doctorate officer sister, came down to have a mini-vacation distress after retirement after dealing with the COVID epidemic and she asked me what I'd like. I've been wanting fruit filled waffles. I haven't made any for a while so I said I want waffles. Most places don't make fruit filled waffles. They're a little bit tricky. So I told her I'd like waffles and she went on Google and found the Pancakery, which has really excellent reviews. It's a very clean environment period it is the first restaurant this public health officer has ever walked into with me and the first comment. She said is it's clean which means it got her seal of approval. It is hygienic. It is neat, it smells good and clean. Not medicine, it has hard surfaces that are easy to clean. But there's a little bit of noise from the hard surfaces during spring break when they were in demand to wear the waiting line at times was As long as two hours. Somehow my sister when she was informed. The key waiting line is 2 hours. This restaurant that does not make reservations. Put her on the cube so that when we got there. We only had a waiting time of about 15 minutes, but unfortunately my niece arrived 15 minutes earlier. Thought it was a reservation and when they said we can't seek you. She thought it was because it wasn't her name. On the reservation period no our names were in the queue line. It was a 2 hour waiting line. Because people love their food period they don't get top marks on atmosphere because it is a cafeteria. Or I would say more like a French or foreign small restaurant looking atmosphere? I've seen similar in Mexico at nice restaurants. They have square tables with chairs. Which, if you have a bigger party you can surely bring tables together. And it's very clean. The chairs move easily. They are comfortable. The table is at a good height. The food is very well staged. And it comes out to the table warm period my sister had an omelet. Te, it was very good. I took The Leftovers home because the food was so good. I had a fruit filled pancake. Because I do not make fruit waffles. There's not a lot of places that do I just make my own. I ordered whole green pancakes. They had fruit in the pancakes and on the pancakes which was a surprise. I didn't know anybody made pancakes with fruit in them. I just expected fruit on the top. It was a nice additional surprise because it does help the pancake be more savory to have the fruit inside of it. Usually I try to blend up the fruit and use the juice. And have it spread through all the pancake batter better for waffles. Because it works better in a waffle. Iron, but it was really nice in a pancake. Just having the fruit in there to be able to bite in and run it to a piece of very nicely cooked flavored pancake infused with fruit. I wasn't too impressed with the French toast, but I'm not a fan of white bread French toast. I like thin wheat bread. French toast with just a light coating of eggs and flipped. But I think that they're making French toast where most people love it. I just grew up with everything thin and a little bit hard and resistant to soaking up syrup, so it sits on the outside so it's not absorbed on the inside. It's cake like pancakes, frenchtoast and toast served here thick slice thick cake like delicious pancakes. It is a...
Read moreMy husband has severe emphysema and is in a wheelchair. He can no longer go to restaurants. So two to three times a month and sometimes more I pick up a to-go breakfast for the two of us. We live right behind the Pancakery so that is easy for me. When it first opened the service and food were outstanding. The food continues to be outstanding but what happens to restaurants that start growing so fast many times is the service goes downhill. During the height of the season The Pancakery will not take to-go orders. That is fine. Another favorite breakfast place of ours is Destin Cafe which is just across the street. Even if the line is out the door, they will take to-go orders and treat you as special as if you were eating there. Their food is every bit as amazing as the Pancakery and they serve delicious pancakes also. They want you to sit at the counter or a table to wait for your order. On a side note I do believe in tipping on to-go orders and always leave a nice tip. This morning I walked into The Pancakery at 11:30. There were several tables open, 6 empty stools at the counter. They took my to-go order. I added a mimosa to drink while I was waiting. I have always sat at the counter to wait for my order. I politely asked if it was OK to sit at the counter. The girl said, "Well, I will have to see if there is a wait." I said, I think you can plainly see that there is no one waiting, there are several tables open and 6 chairs open at the counter. She really did not want me to sit while waiting and drinking my mimosa. By the way, there is no where to sit in their waiting area and their waiting area is extremely small. Finally she said, well OK you can sit at the counter. I no sooner sat at the counter, and a waitress comes up to me and says rudely, did someone seat you there? I said yes I am here for a to-go order and I am drinking a mimosa while I wait. She then again said rudely, did someone seat you there?? I said, "Get your manager!" Well, the girl that did not want me to sit there in the first place was supposedly the manager. I told her I come in regularly during off-season, I am a local and there was never a problem with me sitting at the counter. When my food came, a guy from behind the counter wants to take my credit card without showing me the bill. So I had to ask him to give me the bill first. It makes me sad to see a restaurant like this go downhill on service so quickly. Just because the food is good, most people want good service and to be treated as a valued customer first; otherwise most people won't come back. I hope the owners of this restaurant are reading this review and addressing this problem. Locals are important to your business during off season! I won't be going back! My breakfast place of choice has become Cafe Destin as of today! By the way my bill for the two of us is usually $40-50 not in clouding tip. Today is came to $49 with tip. I think I am...
Read moreAs a frequent tourist of the Emerald Coast area, this was my first time visiting the Pancakery. Due to a small dining area, I would not advise going with a party of over 7 or 8, unless you are willing to wait a long period of time. This location in particular was very busy, as most people were issued a one to two hour wait. My party of 10 willingly waited for a full 2 hours to be seated, however we ended up being separated into two tables that were nowhere close to each other. In the end though, the restaurant itself made up for it.
It is fairly crowded in the dining room, but the decor and environment is playful and suits the theme of the restaurant well. As for the staff, they were polite, but not very friendly. Despite that, the food was delicious.
Visiting during lunch, I ordered the Jalapeno Ranch Chicken Wrap. I highly recommend this dish if you have a craving for hot and spicy foods, as this turned out to be very hot! It was served alongside what tasted like Salt and Vinegar chips. I additionally ordered the Single Loaded Potato, which was almost like a smashed up potato with cheese, bacon, and sour cream. Majority of the other people in my party ordered breakfast, which, after trying a few of their dishes, turned out to be tasty. A few of them ordered chocolate milk as their drink, which turned out to be topped with whip cream and chocolate syrup! However, they were accompanied with water due to the small portion that you receive. All of the food came out very quick!
Overall, I recommend trying out the Pancakery if you have the time to wait! I know for a fact I will be returning in the future.
Update 4/6/22: Despite having a smaller party of 5 people, we were given a wait of 2 hours, but only had to wait for a little over 1 hour. As I said before, the dining area is very small and is not really fit for larger parties (menu indicates 6+ parties are an up charge). The service was a lot better than last time, which is good. I decided I would try something different—the Crab Island Omelette. It was actually pretty good, though I’m not sure I would order it again. On the side I got hash browns, which were good, as well as the sand dollar pancakes, which I was unable to eat because of how filling everything else was. As for other people in my party, they enjoyed their meals but had A LOT of leftovers. To conclude, they offer LARGE proportions of food per meal; so don’t ever tell yourself “that won’t be enough.” Trust me, it will. Overall, we will likely be back on our next...
