I want to begin by pointing out that NOTHING about this exhibit is Covid-19 safe or socially distanced. It was extremely crowded, there were not clear walkways, and no distanced spaces in the immersion room or waterfall room. I also expected to see more sanitizer. Most of the workers did not even have on masks. Its ok BUT don't advertise it as a covid safe event when it is not in any way so. I appreciate the work and legacy of Vincent Van Gogh. There were so many creative ways they could have made his work magical in this event center. The education room was scattered with partial clips of information and quotes but no real rhyme or reason in the display. My son could tell you more about van gogh from a 10 minute youtube video. Sorry, but it is true. The waterfall room was interesting and confusing. It seemed to be more of a short transition hallway and many people missed it and had to go back to experience it. I didn't think it attributed to van gogh and his works In any major way but it was a cute play of color and light to get you on the mood for more. The immersion room was exactly what you see. A stream on a loop wall to wall and floor of a couple of Vincent's more famous works and then a bunch of collage type pieces of his art throughout that translate into eachother over the course of maybe 30 minutes. Some was neat, others were sloppily laid out and underwhelming. It seemed like a 4th grade project. I'm certainly not impressed, it felt like the production was rushed and the experience was a stale taste of what should have been. It was sad, really. Many people seemed less than amused. Unless the real art experience was irony, they missed the mark. The gift shop was a couple shelves that looked picked through already leaving very little to choose from, and I will add the materials were cheaply made. I almost bought a cute bag but it was so cheaply made I was afraid it would just fall apart. At least sell quality. I am so happy I did not...
Read moreThis experience was extremely underwhelming with the waterfall room being just a transition between the two rooms and not really anything to admire. The first room we went through didbt really have much information at all about van gogh, it was just some of his work with little tidbits of information and quotes from him, but not impressive especially for the price of the tickets. The last room that we went through was at least somewhat interesting, with van Gogh's art projected on the walls as well as the floor, but after a few minutes, it just got boring because it was just a lot of standing around and just looking at the walls. It wasn't in any way interactive l, it was just art projected onto the walls and foot with music playing into the background. One thing that I do say is good about this room, is that the animations for his art were pretty cool to watch. It showed the drawing being progressively drawn and then color being added bit by bit of the, but for the 40 dollars per ticket, it definitely wasnt worth it for what you got to see. In my opinion, I actually preferred looking at the art outside of the van gogh exhibit, especially since the detail was much better and you could go up close to see the beautiful work of...
Read moreI absolutely loved it and so did everyone in my party with ages ranging from 6-72. Having been an art teacher for 19 years, I've been to countless art museums from Detroit to NYC. Although I do love traditional art galleries, to me, there can be a sense of boredom. With this immersive exhibit there's an entertaining component that captures your attention and has you leaving with wanting more. I've been googling other immersive exhibits to see what else is available out there. What I loved about this one was the emotional music intertwined with Vincent's artistic journey and mental health struggles. I loved how they included little snippets of his correspondence with Theo. This exhibit is organized in a way that it gives people that aren't real familiar with Vincent, a brief background about him and his legacy. I don't understand how anyone could give this less than 5 stars. The production company that put this together is very talented and I can not wait...
