If you are looking for an upscale dining experience in the city with amazing food, location and ambiance that feels truly local and very Detroit, then Caucus Club is the spot.
We showed up on a weekend night for dinner without a reservation for two. Because of my disability, I use a power chair. I don’t know how they were able to see us from where the restaurant is located in relation to the entrance of the building, but management met us at the front doors. Which, are revolving doors. Rather than have us go around to the other side of the building where the handicap entrance is, the manager immediately called several other staff members from the restaurant and manually collapsed the doors in order to allow me to enter. He then made sure to accommodate us despite no reservations and sat us in a prime area near the entertainment.
The service throughout the entire meal was impeccable and top notch. The staff was knowledgeable, accommodating, observant and everyone worked together in order to make sure we wanted for nothing. Beverages and accompaniments remained full at all times. Speaking of beverages, our cocktails were delicious with excellent flavor profiles and as good, if not better than any of the surrounding bars that specialize in craft cocktails.
Most importantly, the food was amazing! The fruits, vegetables and arugula in my citrus beet salad tasted like they had been cultivated that day and the sherry vinaigrette dressing was so... good! Not to mention the portion was large enough to make a filling meal in itself.
I ordered the pan seared halibut for my entree. Growing up near the ocean, I am pretty picky about my seafood and it was excellent. Again, the portions were large compared to most upscale restaurants. Not only the piece of fish but also the sides of parsnips, carrots, fingerling potatoes and brussels sprouts. My friend ordered the bone-in Ribeye and it was a picture perfect rare as she ordered. She said it was one of the best steaks she’s had in anywhere in a long time.
Sadly, with upscale restaurants these days, including many in Detroit, you are just paying for the ambience but the food is usually overpriced for the quantity and portions. This is NOT the case at the Caucus Club. Choosing this place for a wonderful, delicious night out downtown will certainly...
Read moreThere are no words to express how much my family and I love this restaurant. The service, the food, the atmosphere here are all simply to die for. There is not one suggestion I could give to make anything one iota better. Andrew was the best waiter I've ever had. He and Jaime at Iridescence (closed now 😔) should teach a Master Class. I tucked the card with Andrew's name safely away, but could not find it when it came time to make my res. We ended up with another flawless waiter, an Italian gentleman. I can't remember his name, but I was pleasantly surprised. You just can't go wrong with this place, and the drinks aren't priced obnoxiously. After a while someone came over to visit our table, and it was Andrew!! I was correct in remembering his name, but wasn't sure enough to request him. My son said that we'll have to get Andrew next time, and then the Italian gentleman after, and switch back and forth. My son loves the steak here. The dish my daughter ordered... chicken with asparagus on the side; all absolutely delicious. We always trade bites in my family. They have large portions here. My daughter looks like a Barbie, but eats like a lumberjack, and she couldn't even finish. I don't eat much. I ordered two portions of the Lobster Bisque and couldn't even finish. They kindly put it into one bowl. There are huge pieces of lobster. It's one of the best foods I've ever tasted in my life. I knew what I'd be ordering ever since we left from our first visit. My mouth is watering as I write this. I'm assuming they that the only reason that they do not have a full five ⭐s is because someone came dressed for McDonald's and was told they didn't meet the standard for attire; or they were light on money and didn't care for the prices. To the people who didn't give five ⭐s, might I suggest Applebee's? I'm sure it's much more your speed. I'm not trying to be rude, but I just can't fathom a world where, someone with fine-dining experience, doesn't give this establishment five full ⭐s. I have very high standards and Caucas Club is flawless. I didn't give five stars to The Highlands, nor...
Read moreBack story- A few friends and myself decided to take a friend to dinner for her birthday. The reservation was made and I called to ask if we were allowed to bring a cake, the gentleman I spoke with confirmed it was allowed but needed to be store bought and indicated that it was cake cutting fee. I inquired on the price for that and he say “About $10”- perfect. When we arrived yesterday we were greeted with very good customer service by the young man at the front I can’t remember his name. Our server ANDREW WAS AMAZING!!! Very attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we had a great dining experience even so the gentleman who was at the front I believe he was the manager.
Dislikes- The food was good minus the steak bites but that just happens right? I was still charged for them but the manager fixed it.
My BIGGEST ISSUE WAS SHELLY, a waitress who really should have minded her own business and stayed out of ours. The cake cutting fee that we were charged was $25-I explained to Andrew what I was told in a previous conversation. He went to consult the manager/owner, and Shelly took it upon her unprofessional attitude to go behind him within earshot to tell the manager/owner “Now they’re complaining about the cake cutting fee” I’m sorry if we were a bother to your piss poor customer service Shelly you most very could have stayed away from our table and minded your own business. The “Now they’re” bothered me because what was the other conversation about? The steak bites that weren’t good?????
I will not return to this restaurant, ever again due to the piss poor customer service by 1 waitstaff-she should have shut up.
The manager tried his best to rectify the issue by taking the 4 lemon drop shots off the bill in addition to the steak bites and the cake cutting fee. Much appreciated but poor customer service sticks more than the bill unfortunately especially at what is deemed as a upscale...
