Campus Martius is a nice central spot in downtown Detroit. The Michigan Soldiers & Sailors Monument (dedicated 1867) stands in the middle with impressive bronze figures and lots of historic detail. Around it you’ll find flowers, seating areas, and even a seasonal outdoor bar like Brisa Bar. It’s a good place to pause, people-watch, or grab photos of the monument framed by Detroit’s tall buildings. 📸 Free to visit and easy to reach on foot from other landmarks like the Spirit of Detroit and Guardian Building.

It’s simply amazing that we still have this beautiful monument and these sculptures. It was made in 1872 and re-dedicated in 2005 to commemorate the Michigan War Dead. It makes Campus Martius and downtown Detroit that much better for being present in our city. Best way to get to it is to walk as there is no parking adjacent to the monument. Also, check out nearby Parc, Campus Martius beach, and Cadillac Squate Park while you’re there.
