I hate to knock stars off of a church, but I would like to explain.
First, the people we met were so nice. Everyone was smiling and the service was organized. They had a separate area for the kids and ear plugs available for the worship service. And it was very easy to find, get in, and grab a seat. I'm also glad they had security, but I'm not sure if that was just for Easter Sunday when we came or every Sunday.
Now, why only three stars:
The congregation felt judgmental when the pastor mentioned more people come on Easter and then they don't come again. As if to say the people only come on the holidays (which could be true for some, or for others it could be that they're finding a new church home and this wasn't it.)
The pastor referred to everyone as 'sinners' (I think probably quoting "for all have fallen short of the glory of God), but as a believer I am redeemed through the blood of Christ, repented, baptized, saved through Grace, no longer a slave to sin, no longer a sinner but a saint. I have a problem with being called a 'sinner' in the context that the pastor used because it takes the power out of the gospel.
The kids section was supposed to scan our ticket to get the kids back, but they didn't scan at all and instead let the kids walk out to the parents. I don't feel safe about that, especially downtown.
The worship service was well done, but way too loud.
And finally, the Easter service wasn't about God's miracle of rising from the dead. His message was 'you're going to die and you don't know when so you better follow Jesus so you know where you're going. Time's running out. I only have today to...
Read moreMy son, father, and myself were in Detroit for the weekend. On Sunday, while looking for a church, we found the motor city church. We were so encouraged to see the diverse group of people who congregated before the service talking and enjoying each other. Along with many young families and people of every age. All acting with compassion and love for one another, it was beautiful! The way the church was meant to be. The Spirit was so powerful and clearly working in this church. As we could see with our eyes and by the number of those showing up to enjoy the Rockstar worthy worship service and message. The pastor, Josh, was clearly trying to impart the scripture upon his congregation. You could see the compassion, care, and concern in his eyes for those in his flock as he delivered GOD'S message. Which was strictly Bible based and comforting to see. If you're in the area full time or just visiting, I would highly recommend visiting this church. Speaking as someone who comes from a church with mostly elderly and older parishioners. Sometimes, it feels like the spirits work is slow at best. But to see this young growing church was so powerful and refilling! If you've never seen God work, go there, and you can see it for yourself. May God continue to bless the motor city church, its outreach, and those in the care of Pastor Josh...
Read moreI had a layover in detroit (flight attendant) I was walking and getting lost. It’s crazy how God works. I was busy talking to God in my head and the Holy Spirit was talking to me about my identity in Christ. I’ve been feeling so down about not being married and I seem to keep meeting jerks etc. I was feeling lonely walking .. I’ve been feeling extremely lonely for awhile. My Apple Watch gps got me lost. I was looking for hudson cafe. All of a sudden I heard loud music I walk towards the music. I met a guy that said hi come on in. I’m like is this a Christian church? Sure enough it was! I’m like thank you God that I got to attend church on a Sunday on a layover. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. They had donuts and refreshment.
The pastor was amazing! He spoke the truth and spoke from the Holy Spirit. I love that he spoke from the word in the Bible. His new series was on identity. What struck me was when he was on stage and said this message is for a woman in this church about finding identity in finding a husband or in a guy. It his me hard and I knew this was God he led me here. I definitely want to come back every Sunday. The music was amazing! I was crying during the worship music every word touch my heart I felt so much love I haven’t felt in a long time. This is definitely a community I want...
