I ordered the “steel cut oats”. They should have called it gruel like substance. Delving into the world of gruel-esque oatmeal was an interesting culinary adventure. The texture, reminiscent of traditional gruel, added a nostalgic touch, transporting me to simpler times. The oats, while not luxurious, offered a hearty and satisfying foundation. The flavor profile leaned towards simplicity with a comforting grainy essence. The lack of elaborate additives allowed the natural goodness of oats to shine through. It might not be a gourmet delight, but its unpretentious nature makes it a reliable and wholesome option for those seeking a no-fuss breakfast. In terms of versatility, this gruel-esque oatmeal proved to be a canvas for personalization. Toppings like fruits, nuts, or a drizzle of honey can elevate the overall experience, making it a customizable and adaptable choice for various taste preferences. While not aiming to win culinary awards, gruel-esque oatmeal succeeds in delivering a humble, nutritious, and budget-friendly breakfast option. Its charm lies in its simplicity, making it a dependable choice for those who appreciate the uncomplicated joys of a warm bowl of oats.

Brown Sugar Sea Salt Iced Latte There are some amazing options to indulge in here. For my most recent visit, I kept myself under control and only ordered an iced latte. I asked the cashier what promotional/seasonal flavors they currently offered, and the Brown Sugar Sea Salt Latte was among a few of the flavors she mentioned. It grasped my attention because of the nature of the sweet and salty combination. It was then easy and apparent to me what my selection would be. However, I preferred it to be iced instead of hot although it is the fall season. This latte was definitely worth ordering. The service here is satisfactory. The cashier and the barista were both pleasant and full of positive energy and vibes. That always helps increase the likelihood of me returning to Avalon! But next time, I will have to put my self control on hold and order a dessert or two!

Avalon Cafe and Bakery is a charming little spot located in the heart of Detroit's Midtown neighborhood. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by the delicious smells of freshly baked bread, pastries, and coffee.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a rustic decor that creates a cozy and comfortable environment. The space is filled with natural light, and there are plenty of tables and chairs for customers to sit and enjoy their food and drinks.

Speaking of food, the menu at Avalon Cafe and Bakery is full of delicious options. They offer a variety of baked goods, including bread, pastries, and cookies, as well as sandwiches, salads, and soups. Everything is made fresh daily, using high-quality ingredients that are locally sourced whenever possible.

One standout item on the menu is the "Avalon Grilled Cheese," which is made with their signature "Motown Multigrain" bread and a blend of three cheeses. It's absolutely delicious and definitely worth trying.

In addition to the food, Avalon Cafe and Bakery also serves a variety of coffee and tea drinks, as well as fresh juices and smoothies. The coffee is roasted in-house and is of excellent quality.

Overall, Avalon Cafe and Bakery is a wonderful spot to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a cup of coffee, or just relax with friends. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, and the service is friendly and attentive. Highly...

As much money as I've spent at Avalon as a business owner, I don't think I ever will again. I've never felt so disrespected in this establishment, and I'm hard pressed to find a reasonable answer for why it happened.

My partner, who lives a block away, and I decided to get coffee at the downtown location during a busy time. When we thought we heard our name called, we asked Leo, the person behind the bar. His response was extremely brash and rude - essentially dismissing the question. When we were still uncertain, we decided to ask his colleague. He cut her off, not allowing her to speak. So, our uncertainty remained.

As one of very few Black customers in the entire establishment, we hadn't seen anyone else treated in the manner. We understand being under pressure, but no customers should ever be treated harshly for inquiring about an order.

Avalon likely lost two dedicated...
