First State Heritage Park Welcome Center and Galleries — Attraction in Dover

Not just archives, but it houses a large exhibit of American Illustrations showcasing World War 1. These were featured in ‘Ladies Home Journal from November 1918 to nov 1919 as ‘Souvenir Pictures of the Great War’. Some of these were created by Delaware artists Frank E Schoonover and Gayle Porter Hoskins.

You will also find the USS Delaware Silver Service set pieces along with artifact from the ship. Beautiful works of silver that are amazing.

Glad that our first stop in Dover was to the free Welcome Center. The guide at the front desk was friendly and helpful. She provided a map of the sites around Heritage Park and told us about the free historic walking tour offered daily. There are lots of brochures about attractions around Delaware and the Brandywine Valley. You can park for free in their visitor center with no time limit. The Delaware Public Archives is attached...

Welcome Center is very informative and the lovely woman working at the front desk was very helpful with guiding us on where to start visiting, other attractions, and pamphlets.
