Here's about all you need to know -- Downtown Computer is where the other computer guys go for help. I make house calls to help people get their technology working for them, and don't need help often. But when I do, Nick and the crew are my backup and haven't failed me yet, even with some very unusual and specific needs.
I advise my clients to stay away from the big box stores for computers and service. There are some great people there, but they don't sell what works, they sell what corporate gives them to sell. The fact that a piece of software called "PC Decrapifier" had to be developed to remove all the adware and sales pitch software from computers coming through the retail consumer channel to make them work as they were designed to is evidence enough.
Nothing against the Nerd Gang employees, but the model is designed to create cash flow, not happy customers. Downtown Computer is plenty busy offering real help, not supporting a program designed to befuddle consumers into spending more money.
I have over 30 years of experience building/fixing/using computers, and I feel horrible for users who aren't computer savvy, especially people my age who didn't grow up with it. Brave new world, indeed.
Downtown Computer can help. Good people. Fair prices. Honest and knowledgeable advice. This business is committed to keeping Duluth working smoothly. Not just our computers -- our...
Read moreI am so thrilled with Downtown Computer!
I have worked with them for many years (10+) to take care of my personal and business computers and trust them completely. From a severely disabling computer hack, to purchasing 2 new laptops, a new desktop, extra monitor, docking station, updated software programs, and simply jumping in remotely to my computers to deal with a Malware issue or three, Jane Saylor is absolutely THE best!! I wouldn't trust anyone else.
Sincerely, Jane has continually gone above and beyond to make sure my business system and files are secure, that I have enough storage to maintain files worth 6 figures, to make sure I have solid, durable equipment that holds up to heavy use and travel, and can rescue our systems immediately in an emergency. The woman has PATIENCE and is MUCH smarter than the 'average bear'!
I never have concerns about their access to my files, and they're WELL worth the 75-mile drive I make when I need something taken care of in person. Their prices are competitive - sometimes BETTER - than any competition out there. There has never, ever been an issue they can't take care of, and I've never had any service from them that I would have rated under 5-stars! I'll never go anywhere else - especially with Jane Saylor on board. (The guys are pretty stellar,...
Read moreBought/built a custom (and expensive) laptop via the web (Dell). It never worked right, even out of the box. I struggled, literally for years, to use it. Service calls to Dell took months because they didn't have anyone local that would/could do the work (so glad I paid extra for that extended warranty - NOT). And when Dell did find someone, they were unprofessional and actually cause MORE damage to my laptop. One day, after several hours of non-stop nails-across-the blackboard noise by my laptop (no lie), I asked around and heard nothing but GREAT things about Downtown Computer. As you can imagine, I was not too excited to bring my laptop in somewhere YET again. Let me just say I LOVE LOVE LOVE Computer Downtown. They were fast, professional, understanding and never ever made me feel silly about my questions or concerns. Not only did they fix the myriad of cascading problems that I had, but they did it with my limited funds in mind. They were in constant contact and even took the time to go over the new operating system, new anti-virus, and set up my laptop in such a way that I could actually find my way around (new OS can be daunting). Highly recommend them! I am their new...
