At first impression, I was a little apprehensive about entering the Cantonese House. There was one solo diner, no staff to be seen, reruns of an old 70s show on the TV, with very dim lighting, and the decor was in serious need of a revamp. I stood in the entry, wondering if I should seat myself or stand there and wait. I waited...and waited...eventually a waitress came out from the back, asking what i wanted to order before i had a chance to look at the menu, she gave me a moment while she went to get my drink order. The Coke she brought was in a can. There is nothing better than ice cold Coke...in a can! She took my order, had me pay my bill, then disappeared into the back. She quickly returned with an egg roll with some sort of liquid in a paper cup. I am not a fan of most egg rolls, and this was no exception. The Chicken Wings with Oyster Sauce were next to be brought out, and they looked amazing. They tasted even better! I commented that they were the best I'd ever had, and the waitresses' demeanor instantly changed. She was friendly and spent more time in the dining area, checking every so often to see if i needed anything. I ordered the Two Patties Egg Foo Yung, Sweet & Sour Chicken with white rice combination. After having those chicken wings, I was a bit disappointed by the entree. I have mixed opinions about the Cantonese House. I'll forever crave those chicken wings with Oyster sauce, the ambiance leaves something to be desired, the lady who waited on my table was fantastic, she completely changed my first impression of the Cantonese House, and I'd go back again! Ice cold Coke in a can, the best crispy Chicken Wings with Oyster Sauce that I've ever had, and a toothpick...yup, I'd...
Read moreI used to live in Duluth and this place was my go-to for delicious, fresh tasting Chinese food. I make a point of stopping here when I pass through and it’s always been amazing. They’ve always been super accommodating to my vegetarian diet — I always get the sweet and sour made with tofu, plus some stir fry veggies or vegetarian fried rice. The sweet and sour sauce isn’t the super red stuff most places have — you can taste the orange citrus zing and it’s perfectly sweet. The veggies are fresh and retain a nice crunch. Tofu is 👌. The owner has always been incredibly kind and the prices are VERY reasonable for the quality meal you receive. Sometimes the wait can be a little longer than other places, but it’s because the food is being made fresh to order. Absolutely worth it! If you’re looking for generic Chinese food — this isn’t your place. But if you’re looking for something different where you can taste the care they put into the food, I can’t recommend it enough. This place is...
Read moreStopped by today for the first time. Horrible Experience. Got home and discovered they gave me the wrong order. There was only two people in the restaurant. Sesame Chicken is supposed to have sesames....none to be found.
Small portions too. I know for a fact you can get more chicken in a 5 piece nugget at McDonalds than what you get here. Rice was undercooked and over seasoned. Little black pieces of something in the rice too. Wired. Temperature was great. Egg Roll was ok. I will probably not return unless they make a drastic turn around. I say go to Chinese Dragon....Better Service more friendly people, and bigger portions for less money....and its only a few blocks down the street....Its...
