Santa Rita Park — Attraction in Durango

I love this park for so many reasons. There’s tons of parking available. Changing room, restrooms, basketball court, volleyball court, huge playground. There are multiple watercraft launch points. The park lies along the Animas River Trail. About a hundred yards or so NW off the parking lot is the whitewater park where you can always find kayakers and river surfers playing. Best rapids for rafting too. Also, there’s a huge field for sports activities. Plenty of picnic areas, and a pavilion. I’d consider this the biggest park in Durango with the most amenities. This playground was really nice, with large slides and a variety of equipment. The lack of a nearby restroom is pretty annoying - you have to walk to the sewage treatment plant where there is a seemingly less than maintained restroom without soap. Also, a selfish person had their dog off leash and it was wandering the playground, and it was a dog that could injure children potentially. Just be respectful, obey the laws, and take your dog off leash to any of the many areas...

My family and I love coming here, especially for the playground! It is a huge playground with plenty of grassy areas for a rest or cute picnic. It also has quick and easy access to the river. Whether you want to dip your feet into the water or take a kayak for some fun. There is also a pretty big river walk trail that perfectly leads to the bathroom; which is very convenient when your little one has to go.
