LEGOLAND® Discovery Center New Jersey — Attraction in East Rutherford

First and foremost I want to thank each and every individual I had the pleasure of working with, which includes LeeAnn, Kacie, and Grace. Grace was my booking coordinator and communicated very clear and 2 days before my sons birthday party she gave me a call and asked me if there is anything else she could help me with, she then reviewed the party information, asked about my guest list, and made sure that nothing was missing. Thank you Grace making everything come together. When think of the phrase above and beyond, it’s not just something you say it’s something that’s truly felt and truly appreciated, LeeAnn and Kacie thank you so much for going above and beyond. My Son’s birthday was fantastic! Wait no, it was BRICK-tastic! Thank for being the greatest host, from helping me decorate the whole room filled with Dinosaur decoration, Dinosaur balloons, for allowing me to enjoy legoland with my Son, family, and friends. You ladies had a room filled with approximately 43 guest and no one felt left out, they had a blast playing those challenging games, and I truly love how you included both the kids and adults. Thank you so much for everything you did that day, you ladies made his birthday celebration very special. Lastly I want to thank everyone who we interacted with that day at Legoland, everyone was amazing, my grandma, aunt, and mother in law have never built a Lego, but that day they had the privilege of being inside a workshop room where a young gentle guided them in putting together a robot Lego set and they loved it, till a week later they talk about how cool Lego’s are and they never thought it would be so much fun. Competition time! Another great experience was when a Lego ambassador made all the little ones come to the center and make a boat, they had the kids make a boat out of Lego pieces (random Lego pieces) and then name their boats, and it was amazing. I have to clarify that my kids (6 & 4) would rate this visit a 4, and I would rate it a 2, at best.

The biggest issue for this location, and the Lego company in general, is communication. As we arrived, I walked up to a young man who seemed rather aloof. He said we had to purchase tickets online, which was not posted anywhere on their website nor at the front of the line. When I asked where to do that, he just pointed across the hall, away from the store. I did not see, and had to ask again. Only then did I see this free standing sign with a QR code to scan and purchase. The ticket prices on one screen after clicking the day and time were different once they went to the sopping cart. When I inquired why this was the case, the young man said "it's the summer price." I asked how that could be, as it was no longer summer. Then he said, "Well, it's a weekend price." So which was it, and why did one screen say one price, then change once in the cart? They had no answer. My sons and I had previously received coupons to buy one, get one free from a recent purchase at a Lego Store. When I asked where to put in the discount code, I was then told that this was said to me in error, as they are only for use at Legoland. I SPECIFICALLY asked this question at the store, but alas, more miscommunication.

My sons enjoyed playing at all the stations. As an avid Lego fan, I found the stations small, very repetitive and mediocre, but I'm glad the young children enjoyed their time. The New York displays were cool, but many of the interactive buttons were not working. There were postings that Ninjago and other Lego characters would be out for meet & greets, but no one came through in the two hours we spent playing and exploring. There were also supposed to be some build classes the boys could take, but these did not occur either.

Overall, disappointing for three people on a Saturday morning, especially with a price tag of...

Typically not one to leave bad reviews but there were simply too many things to complain about here...while the kids had "fun" I did not enjoy the experience at all. For starters, I feel like the price to value ratio is absolutely horrible. I get that the American Dream is trying to pull tourists but you should at least give a discount to those who actually live in NJ. The first thing we did was the "ride" where you basically point a laser beam at the wall and watch as there's no correlation to the score that you receive, overall it was fun...the kids enjoyed it a lot (although it is rather short). Next we wanted to get on line for the "3D Show" which when you watch the ads on the site they make it out to seem like a full blown movie in a movie-theater style setting, in reality it's a short film and you sit on a wet box...but again, the kids enjoyed it a lot. My biggest problem with the film is that we had no idea there were other films, and the "showings" times were all messed up as someone had tampered with the numbers, so 2 of our kids missed out on the other shows. The café closed early, so we didn't even get a chance to stop in. The "Build your own Lego" room also closed early...so we didn't get to do that either. The "Race car track" had so few pieces that we struggled for nearly 20 minutes to make a "car" which didn't even roll due to lack of pieces. The large Lego City is nice...to look at, but none of the interactive features worked. The place-place and large Legos that kids climbed on were fun for the younger kids but we could have went to a playground for that. The extra-cost bonus pack is literally a lanyard with a sticker book attached to it? At a price of over $300 I feel like there is a laundry list of other places that we could have went to and had a much better time. Again, I'm typically not one to write BAD reviews but I felt like this Legoland deserves it. Would not recommend to...
