We had gone for a double performance. I had never been before, and was very happy with the parking, because there's plenty of it close to the theater. Get in the theater and the lobby area and restrooms are incredibly small, but that's not what you go for. Once inside the actual auditorium, I was rather disappointed. It seemed like it was smaller than it should have been, or perhaps, they crammed one too many rows of seating in it, and the roads were very narrow. Because of that, I was rather uncomfortable in my companion who is 64, was crumbled up into a little ball because the seating is just narrow. Other than that, the performance was very nice. We had a little bit of history of the building, of the organs, and went into some organ playing into a sing-along ending with a cartoon. We then had a 10-minute break and then when we came back we were treated to the main event which was a silent movie, accompanied by organ music. Read moreThis is a fantastic little theater where one can really experience silent movies accompanied by the mighty Wurlitzer organ. What I found interesting was that I got drawn into the story just like in a movie where the actors talk, albeit in a slightly different way. A lot of the action happens in the facial expression of the actors, and that combined with the music I found very emotionally touching. In a way, if I had heard them talk in the trans Atlantic accent, it would have diminished the experience even though I will never know what the cast's true voices sounded like. Read moreOld Town Music Hall is really one of the stars in the crown of L.A. Located in the charming classic south bay town of El Segundo, it is the old State Theater built in 1925. The gentleman who runs the place has since 1968 and is passionate about providing wonderful music (and does so playing the Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ which came from the old Fox Theater in Downtown Long Beach. Classic films are shown nearly every weekend at an affordable price. The occasional Laurel and Hardy festivals are really a treat. Speaking of treats, candy and baked goods are available for sale.
