Cap'n Willis Seafood Market — Attraction in Emerald Isle

Horrible service! This place was awesome to my husband on Mother’s Day. However, for Father’s Day there were a different set of people in the store. My husband called ahead of time before we took time out our day to drive 45 minutes to get the same customer service he received previously. We asked for blue crabs and the young girl and a guy went to the back to check if they had some. A different younger guy came out the back straight to us and asked what we were looking for, before heading to the back to go check he whispers to the older lady that was helping another customer. She then looked up at us and blatantly lied and said “We ain’t got no blue crabs, we haven’t had any in all day”. Then once we said we called earlier she said “I don’t know who y’all talked to, did you place an order? Because what we have is already ordered.” Then the younger girl came out stating they had six crabs left. We stepped outside to discuss another option literally 2 minutes. My sister went back in so she could buy the six they had, the same girl said “we are out they’ve been ordered”. I told my husband that would be our new seafood go to simply because they were so sweet to him the last time. But never again, the whole situation was sketchy, so it’s a NO for me, from here on out. I've been here several times now and here are my thoughts. -The best thing to buy here is the seafood that is right in front of you that they cut. It's extremely good quality. Very very fresh. It's incredibly pricey but so is everything at the beach. -Over in the fridge, there are crab cakes. They are absolutely flipping fantastic. I've bought several times as I never get tired of them. -The key lime pie, while good, may not be worth $16. It tastes like cream pie and lacks key lime flavor. -I ordered jumbo steamed shrimp and they are at best medium. I've worked in a professional kitchen and know what I'm looking at. You need to check everything that you buy here- I'm not sure that they are trying to cheat the customer on purpose or not, but still. The cocktail sauce...

Excellent fish market!! Fresh selection of seafood but so much more. Delicious key lime pie & the homemade tarter sauce is a must- we use it as a dip with cut veggies! All the staff is friendly & knowledgable. Diane works most days & is very helpful with what & how much to purchase. They even steam peel & eat shrimp for you- so a great alternative to going out & fighting the crowds. Crab cakes are excellent too-just saute in pan with butter & you have a 5 star dinner.
