Our family of four stayed at Hover Inn the first week of June 2020. This was our first visit and we were apprehensive since we have been disappointed in previous oceanfront rentals in Emerald Isle that have had a policy to allow dogs. We were quickly reassured when we saw the state of the house. Every room was well furnished and pleasant to be in (although we didn't use the small room with the bunkbeds). The floorplan also worked for us since we have a 15 and 17 yo who wanted to be on a different floor from us, so they each had a room with a king bed on the ground floor overlooking the ocean while we had the second floor master. The beds and pillows were all extremely comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped (there is a keurig and a drip coffee pot). One of my favorite parts about this house was being able to hear the surf at night (even from the second floor with the sliding glass door shut). So soothing. My least favorite parts were the lack of stairs going straight from the 1st floor to the walkway to the beach and also the steepness of the stairs going from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor master (these were wooden and not carpeted like the remaining stairs in the house and my 7 yo golden struggled to get down them without slipping). Not having access to the walkway to the beach from the main living area was challenging since it meant going down to the ground floor through my teens' rooms (which they got tired of quickly) or out the "front" door all the way down the outside steps in the front of the house. Having stairs doing to the beach walkway directly from the oceanfront balcony on the 1st floor would have been more convenient. But this house has so much charm and is furnished and equipped so well, that it is an outstanding oceanfront rental and even more so given that you are able to...
Read moreWe enjoyed our vacation week at R & R. The house was really nice and large with plenty of room for everyone. Everyone enjoyed the rec room with the pool table and the private pool. However there were a few things that need some attention by the owner. One of the chairs to the dining room table was broken when we arrived. Also the baby gates did not work. We could not get them to fit . We have a crawling 10 month old that we really had to watch to make sure he did not venture too close to the stairs. There were not enough coffee cups and the ones there were small. Not very good frying pans and baking sheets need replacing. The pool was a little disappointing. The wood flooring around the pool show signs of deteriorating and needs to be replaced with cement. But the kids still enjoyed it. Kitchen was a nice size with plenty of cabinets. Appliances could be upgraded. The beds were not very comfortable. Everyone complained of not sleeping well. The King size beds actually did not have king size mattresses but 2 twin beds put together. That resulted in a ridge in the middle of the bed that was not very comfortable. The elevator was a huge asset loading and unloading suitcases, coolers, groceries, etc. Also, The driveway did not give alot of room for parking. Because there was not a fence or anything to separate this house with the one next door, it seemed we were on top of each other. Because we booked the first week of Sept. and the rates were lower and because of the things mentioned above, I think the price was still a little too high for the time of year. It would have been nice to have a discount of some kind. Anyway we still had...
Read moreWe have rented with Shorewood 5 times. 3 of them renting the same large home...Bikini Cove. All the staff have been extremely helpful from finding a place to checkin and checkout. Any contact during the stay is rare since they handle quality properties. But in the few instances we needed service, they have responded quickly giving great service. Im sure the home owners are as satisfied as are we. Shorewood is a significant part of why we love Emerald Isle. Their office is centrally located (and near a Dairy Queen..important to our grandchildren). Its hard to believe another realtor can equal their level of service. The one comical item is that we are given a Shorewood tote with local newspapers, map, local activities brochures and ....1 roll of toilet paper...for a 6 bedroom 5.5 bath house. Of course we bring our own. Sadly, due to other obligations for part of our family, we won’t need such a large house....more sadly is that we won’t be renting Bikini Cove again. But we asked Shorewood for info regarding a 4 bedroom home. I know Shorewood will find us a smaller version Bikini Cove and we’ll be just as happy. We thank all the staff at Shorewood for the attention they gave us over the years. It’s a special relationship we want to continue. Have a good winter! Fondly, thank you, from the...
