I joined retro fitness for the new year because they had a decent membership plan. After creating the membership, I ran into some problems with money and realized I had too many financial responsibilities and couldn’t end up affording the membership. I cancelled before the end of the 3 day policy and was told I would NOT face any penalties or charges. The employees at retro were very kind about the situation after i explained it to them and cancelled the membership for me and didn’t give me a hard time. I was very thankful for that. I was planning on paying for the membership again once I was more stable. It’s been almost a week since I cancelled it and out of no where the owner/manager Mike called me on my personal cellphone and proceeded to hassle me about why I cancelled my membership. I didn’t want to provide personal information to him and said I didn’t feel comfortable disclosing much, and just told him it was money related. His response was to badger me about all of the memberships benefits and that I could’ve given away my membership for free, which I wasn’t told when I originally cancelled. I explained to him I didn’t have anyone to give the membership too and that I was okay with just cancelling it. He proceeded to pry more into my financial and life problems and wouldn’t let the conversation end. I ended up growing frustrated with him and becoming stern with him over the phone and his response was to explode and be extremely rude to. I yelled at him and hung up the phone. I didn’t want to continue the conversation since he was being so rude from the beginning. Then, he decided to call me once more and proceeded to offer me a job in order to pay for the membership, to which I told him I already had a job, just too many financial things to deal with. He kept screaming at me over the phone until I finally hung up on him a second time. This is incredibly unprofessional for a business to do to its possible customers. I would have reinstated my membership at a different time once I had more money but now I will never visit a retro fitness again. I am also going to be calling their corporate office to speak with someone over his behavior. I am appalled that a business would call someone after cancelling a membership and demand an explanation for why they couldn’t afford it .. why care? You have many other clients willing to pay a monthly fee for your gym how money hungry can you possibly get with a single potential customer? Then to try & offer employment just so they could afford to go to the gym. Mike seems like a very disrespectful man and I can see why so many people cancel their Retro Fitness...
Read moreDO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!! If I could give them ZERO stars I might. I do not know who the general manager is or district manager is, hope they read this a rewind some tapes when they are not working and see what I'm about to tell you. First they should really think about who they have hired and consider if they are working to the companies expectations. Seriously. The staff is terribly rude and will barely say ONE word to you if you ask them a question. You have to be part of the little clique in this gym I suppose that they have. This gym has about 5-7 employees in the front all hanging out doing nothing and you can't get a hi welcome to retro from anyone !? Then to make it worse I have to stand there like an idiot for a few minutes until some girl asks me very rudely, "what do you want" !? Never mind I shall keep my money, have a good one. This gym was not this rude and nasty at the old location, at least a couple of hi's and prompt help when not busy. Only once nice lady named sandy always say's to everybody and gives you that welcoming feeling. But, now with this new location and a lot more employees in the front all I see is laziness and the rudest of people. It feels very weird walking into a gym and you don't even feel comfortable saying hi to the staff. I have yet to see a smile on the staff's faces, they are all terribly rude, sarcastic and just plain mean. What makes this gym even worse is the other gym-goers. When you go into this gym be prepared to be STARED at constantly and constantly cleaning up other people's weights moving things out of your way that other gym goers just leave out. The staff does nothing to help out, they just sit behind their desk and point at gym goers judging and laughing. The gym itself is very nice with many options but they have made a lot of unnecessary changes in my opinion m. With the new era of cross fit coming into the world and new type of fitness, I feel as if retro should understand what its customers want. Maybe even have like a poll of want their members want in the gym and don't, to please their target market. Like there used to be a wall ball in the gym, I have never been to a gym with one and was excited to use it and try and boom it's gone. Also many other changes have been made but there more personal preferences more than complaints or compliments. My main reason to write this is to make people aware of the very uncomfortable/ hostile environment you may be walking into joining this location. I'm not even going to give the speech about the cancelation process with this gym, try somewhere else that appreciates...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate misadventure of joining Retro Fitness, which was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. This gym has proven to be utterly incapable of handling even the simplest of issues, leaving me frustrated and disheartened with their utter lack of competence and customer service. If you value your time, money, and sanity, avoid this disastrous gym.
The first sign of trouble was during the signup process. The staff seemed untrained and clueless about their membership packages, leading to misinformation and confusion. It took me multiple attempts and a considerable amount of wasted time before I could even get a clear answer about the membership fees and terms.
The final straw came when I decided to terminate my membership due to the numerous issues. Trying to cancel my membership was like solving a riddle without any clues. The front desk staff seemed to be in a constant state of disarray, and no one knew the proper procedures for cancellation. I was transferred from one person to another, only with no resolution. I was even charged for an extra month after my supposed cancellation date!
In conclusion, my experience with Retro Fitness in FAIRFIELD has been nothing short of a disaster. From the incompetent staff to the lack of equipment maintenance and complete disregard for member safety, this gym has proven to be an absolute nightmare. I strongly advise everyone to stay far away from this gym if you value your time, money, and sanity. There are far better options with staff who know how to handle issues and genuinely care about their...
