I graduated from RISD many moons ago, but still recall one of the greatest lessons I learned from my favorite professor. He said, "The difference between a work of art and a 'commercial illustration' was that the creative piece should be far more than just a replica of a detailed photo: That it should utilize space with as much importance as it gives those defined subjects on the canvas -- That the colors blend, connect and dance in a unique way -- a way that not only complements the aura of their surroundings but (most importantly) also projects a new and different experience each day to the observer. There is an extensive body of work most of which I liked very much particularly the Cape Cod landscapes and some of the marine work is beautiful. It is a quaint gallery. Just went yesterday after reading the reviews as there are a million galleries on Cape Cod and in Falmouth. It is worth the trip. I spent more than I wanted but Julia the artist is friendly and very low pressure. She was also fun. My only complaint is I couldn't find her at first! If she is not in the gallery look around the house as I found her puttering...

You will not find any finer marine art. The composition, radiant light, and colors that can only be achieved through the careful application of multiple layers of translucent colors are so well presented here. The pictures are captivating, and on par with the best of the best. The gallery itself is charming and perfect for viewing each work.
