Yay! Yay! Yay! The Fort Worth Stockyards was truly a treat, y’all! You have great places to eat (H3 Ranch for example) as well as watching the famous Longhorns Cattle Drive held twice a day which is such a unique Texan experience for people from out of state like myself. There are some limited free parking spots, but you can always find some pay area.
My whole family enjoyed watching the Longhorn Cattle Drive as the cowboys marched the cattle down the street in the old fashion way. There are something nostalgic about watching the cowboys perform and the cattle walk. The are plenty of souvenirs shops if you are up to buying something as token of Texas, a cowboy hat for instance :-)
Oh did you forget to say you can pay $594 so to hop on a longhorn for a picture? My son totally loved it.
Never love this place enough and I love come back as much as I can. Howdy! (Visited in the near past, only got to...

Seeing the herd is free and a good place to view is in front of the visitor center. There are lots of shade trees and a couple misting fans. The herd goes by quick. Just a couple of minutes but it’s amazing to see the Longhorns. They are available to view in their pens behind the exchange building as well. The other touristy activities cost extra and in my opinion not worth it. $5 for a picture on a steer, $3 for the petting zoo which is almost all goats and an extra $3 for a cup of feed. Mechanical bull ride is $8, museum is $5, etc. I’m glad we checked it out. Interesting...
Read morevisited the Fort Worth Stockyards to see the cattle herd, and it was a great experience. The longhorns are massive, and seeing them up close is definitely memorable. The cattle drive started right on time and only lasted about five minutes, so get there early and be ready.
They gave a short but interesting history of the American cowboy before the herd came through, which added to the experience. I also noticed afterward that there’s a small museum nearby—but I missed it this time, so that’s a reason to come back.
Surprisingly, I didn’t mind the smell of the cattle either—adds to the authenticity! Overall, a fun and unique slice of Texas history. Worth checking out...
