My rating is more of a 3.5 than a 4 but it was a more positive experience than negative so I rounded up.
Having worked at a coffee shop myself, I feel like I’m a lot pickier than I used to be.
The ambiance of Avoca is so nice. If you’re lucky, you will be able to have the shop pretty much all to yourself. The upstairs seating is a loft like space that overlooks the bottom floor so you can see all the visitors coming in. I had a great time with my friends chatting but some people wanted to study here in this small small shop of all places in the most busy part of town and gave us looks when we were laughing and having fun. I don’t know who set the expectation that you could study here but it’s not the place.
The girl who took my order was very sweet. My latte I got was alright- not spectacular but they make their own syrups which is amazing and it’s more of a third wave coffee shop which I appreciate as well.
You will have a hard time accessing the restroom as they only have one. I had to wait a while which wasn’t what I wanted to spend 20 minutes waiting for but what can you do.
I know it’s everywhere now but I wish the coffee was less pricey since I’m lactose intolerant so I always ask for oat milk. But other than that really no...
Read moreIt was kind of a weird experience. The espresso tastes fine, but it kind of ended on a bad note. I asked if their shots came out as doubles, and was told yes. Common practice really. All good. I asked for two shots, which would be the equivalent of 4 shots. "did you want it in the same cup?" I said yes please. "anything else?" A couple pieces of ice so I can shoot it. "Okay." There was a discussion behind th counter amongst th staff about my order. "We don't usually put two shots in the same cup. I don't feel comfortable doing that." "Well just let them know that that's not how we do it." Person hands me my shots, in the same paper cup, and proceeds to repeat this information. "We don't put two shots in the same cup. We don't add ice. If you want something chilled we have xyz." How about you just hand me my drink? I ordered two espressos with a couple pieces of ice, paid for two espressos with a couple pieces of ice. Seems a bit pretentious, and presumptuous, to dictate to someone how to drink their coffee, after they've already ordered and paid for it. This isn't in a 5 star hotel where you would expect a chef-lead tasting menu. I dont understand what happened...
Read moreCame here a couple of times and had good experience before, however this morning was the first time here, and in Fort Worth in general, that someone behaved very poorly. The girl who was making our coffee today (11/20/23) made a face and lectured me what the coffee is called here and what I should have asked for (americano). We are from London, we also drink americano, fully aware of what an americano is. What I asked for was a longer pour espresso, but not as long as an americano. She obviously didn’t feel like accommodating customers’ request this morning, nor listening. She chose poor manners and actually made herself look like an arrogant fool. Recommendation to management: customer service training obviously requires repeating, and perhaps a sit down to discuss manners and how her behaviour impacts the business and customer experience. Maybe this job is not for her but I certainly not forcing her to do it, the choice is hers. Everyone in Texas is really nice, that’s why it’s my favourite state. This was the first time meeting someone in Fort Worth who was disgustingly rude, not a good way...
