I hope management sees this review, because as someone that loves going to the theater to see movies and this being our only option in Traverse City... AMC Classic Cherry Blossom 14 is on a downward spiral.
Movie Theaters should be a fun and exciting experience, a place you want to see movies and go and create memories. But this place is becoming depressing.
The place just isn't clean. The lobby floor is always dirty, the soda machines are always filthy and each one is always out of something. The Bathroom facets look like they haven't been properly cleaned in years and the theaters are gross. The IMAX cupholders are disgusting with trash and spilled food/drinks . There appears to be no care in presentation. The Popcorn is often so stale. They don't offer any type of seasonings like theaters downstate (Celebration Cinema; where you can put white cheddar etc. on your popcorn). There has been times that I've missed part of the movie to go complain that the popcorn is so so chewy. The place is in need of updates and repair. I know movie theaters have been in a tough spot since covid, but if they want people to come back to theaters, they need to make an effort. You walk into the lobby and the first thing you see often are neon signage or tv's that aren't working or partially out. Pay for an Imax ticket to see all the leather seats cracking, ripping or falling apart, or they're completely filthy, The picture quality is lacking, often dim and not great. I really wish we had a Dolby Cinema up here or management that cared about movies presentation. The Bar. It's never opened or they say the taps aren't working tonight. But I haven't seen the bar open in a long time.
The only real positive is the sound quality in the IMAX. The rest of this theater is pretty depressing and that is sad. I love taking my kids to the movies and wish they could have the same experiences I had growing up downstate going to Studio 28, where they had big display pieces they'd make for what ever popular movie was out or coming out, neon lights everywhere, fresh snacks, clean auditoriums, It was awesome.
Now you go to AMC Classic Cherry Blossom 14 and it feels like they aren't even trying. That they have given up and it is slowly dying. You can tell who ever runs it, that movies and theaters aren't a passion and thats a bummer. I love going to the movies and this place...
Read moreWe will never go to this theater again. The lines were unbelievably long. If you want to purchase tickets and concessions, you must go through a maze, like you see in airports or an amusement park. There were over a hundred people in that line, so we decided to forego the concessions, and use our Carmike Gift Card at the kiosk. That line had about 25 people ahead of us. Only two kiosks were working, as the other one was out of printing paper. Once we got up there, it wouldn't take our card, so we used a credit card. By the time we did that, the feature was sold out. (It was NOT Star Wars.) Undaunted, we purchased tickets for the next showing of the feature.
We returned a few hours later to the same mob of people standing in line. We arrived very early, afraid that even though we had tickets, we might not be able to sit together. We got in the theater, and they began showing commercials. They played those advertisements for a half hour, before the previews - which lasted for another 20 minutes. To pay premium prices and then be subjected to commercials is ridiculous! Additionally, once the feature finally started, we watched several people come into the feature late - they had been stuck in the long lines, and missed the beginning of the film.
Though several reviews have complained about being cold, that was not the case in Theater 13. It was at least 80 degrees in there, if not higher. People around us were all falling asleep. When we were walking out, there were two staff members at the door, and we reported the high heat levels. Their response was "Oh yeah, we've had trouble with that." No apologies were offered.
The theater was littered EVERYWHERE with popcorn. It was all over the lobby, in the aisles, and on the seats. Every place we walked, we crunched popcorn. They have tables in the lobby set up for people, and everyone of them was filthy. Obviously, they are totally understaffed and ill-prepared to keep this place clean. Neither of us even wanted to try the restrooms.
We will definitely be seeing all our movies at community and volunteer run theaters. We feel well treated there, with regards to comfort, cleanliness, and respect for our support. This place and experience was both disappointing...
Read moreI went to see the new Spiderverse movie yesterday and enjoyed the movie a lot. The theater seats weren't very comfortable, but it's not a big deal because I'm used to the upgrades that larger theaters have been making to their auditoriums over the last few years. I wouldn't have left a review at all, but after thinking about it overnight and realizing this interaction did leave me with an unfavorable opinion, I thought I should share here. As soon as the movie ended and the illustrated credits started rolling, a male worker started sweeping up the theater. There were only about 15 of us, maybe half had been eating popcorn or candy. People started to leave only after he had entered their row and got close to them, which I didn't really take note of until he got to a few rows in front of me and I could hear him swearing about the customers, having to sweep up after them, and that it was stupid that the lights hadn't come on yet. The movie was technically still rolling, we hadn't even gotten to the end of the animated credits and I knew there was an announcement for the next movie at the end (but not a real end-credit scene). I get that cleaning up after patrons isn't great, but I think it's a bit unreasonable to be swearing about it in front of the paying customers...
