We have taken 3 work trucks in recently for new tires. We have one more vehicle to return with but I highly doubt we will return after this fiasco.
We first began by calling around for the best price. The gentleman on the phone was great and suggested a new-to-us tire that actually was a bit cheaper than we usually spend. We decide to give it a shot. We place an order for 12 of these tires to be ordered and held, pay the $25 deposit and schedule our appointment.
We are 45 minutes away from Discount Tire...
Vehicle #1 - We show up to our first appointment - they can only find 3 of 4 tires. We schedule an appointment to return AND we get a receipt showing the total for all THREE trucks. The gentleman had graciously offered us a discount due to the hassle of having to come back. Thankfully we got a receipt of this...you will find out why later on.
We return for the second appointment for the first vehicle and have the tires installed and we are on our way.
Vehicle #2 - We show up, tires are installed. We did not bring the receipt with us as we didn't expect to need it but they say they see no discount on our account. After a little while, the gentleman offers $50 off. We pay and inform them that we will bring the receipt with the next vehicle to show the discount owed to us.
Vehicle #3 - We show up to our scheduled appointment. Mind you they have informed us that all tires are in (but they also did for Vehicle #1 as well). Would you be surprised to find out they can only find 3/4 tires? Believe me, I was too. Well to top it off - they were unaware that they only had 3 tires until AFTER removing all 4 of my tires. So, they put the 2 new tires on the front of the vehicle and put my old ones back on the back. They then put the third tire in the back of the truck so they did not lose it. You can't make this stuff up!! At this point, we are extremely frustrated for now having WASTED two separate trips for the same issue!! While we are here, we show them the receipt that showed the price we would be out the door for ALL THREE vehicles after the initial gentleman offered us a discount for their first issue. Even with the proof in their hands, they still "have no clue how we would get that price"...and on top of that - they were not even crediting the $25 deposit we were REQUIRED to pay.
We leave and are told that they will contact us when the last tire is in - estimated 1-2 days. NOBODY calls so we call them 3 days later. After attempting literally for hours (phone rings and rings - replaying their greeting), someone answered (Anthony). He assures us he will look into this and return our call by 6 pm that day. Of course, no returned call. So, we call the next day and speak to someone else (Mike) - who AGAIN assures us he will call us back after he does some research. No surprise here BUT again, no returned call. So, we decided to show up the following day. They magically have our last tire - install it and we are on our way!
Let me say - I am a pretty understanding person (I am a manager - I get that mistakes happen) especially now due to Covid delays AND I know they are busy with people getting their snow tires on...but even just a LITTLE follow-through would have made this experience better and I might not have felt the need to leave a review. We felt like they were irritated with us everytime we called - the only one who has the right to be irritated here is ME! We have one more vehicle and honestly - I'd rather pay more to go elsewhere than to deal with them again. They probably would only have 3 tires anyways LOL. I can understand showing up for 1 appointment and they have mistakenly lost a tire....but a second time that this happens? If my employees ran my business this way - they would no longer be...
Read moreOver the past few years the amount of "Hard selling" and "up selling" has gotten out of hand. I've been coming here for years and the past 2 years the amount of "extra" stuff they push on you is getting out of hand. Last year I had a tire with a plugged hole in the tread (not wall) and the tire was still perfectly good and only a year old, they told me they couldn't put the tire on because of that it was a safety hazard. But they've done it multiple times and my father-in-law just had his tires put back on and he had a plug in one and they put it on with no problem. The last time I was in the shop they were trying to converse almost every soul coming in they needed new lug nuts and I mean almost everyone including myself. I declined and then they said well the back is fine but the front needs to be replaced or they may not come off. I know how chrome capped lug nuts work and I know they expand and will need replacing but mine were perfectly fine and the amount of people they were convincing to replace all for $135 extra was ridiculous. My father-in-law went to them 2 weeks before I did and I asked him if they convinced him to get new lug nuts and he said yes. I seriously doubt every person coming in needed new lug nuts. Lastly they were trying to converse me I needed new windshield wipers even tho they were only a month old and trying to explain to me how they were sitting means they are worn out. No, that's just how they sit on the windshield from pressure of the windshield wiper arms. The blades are working just fine.
Honestly they need to be held accountable for the aggressive amount of up selling and hard selling they are doing especially to older folks, women, and young people. With the current economy the average American can't be spending anything extra on items they don't need just to increase a company's profit margin.
Overall they do good work and performance as marketed and you can expect quality. But...

Overall, a very friendly and thorough location.
We visited this Discount Tire on January 10th, 2023 in order to get four new tires for our F-150. The mechanic informed us that we also needed all new lug nuts, so they replaced them as well.
Our experience while there was good. The workers were friendly, and informative, but unfortunately the negative part of our experience occurred over the past few weeks after our vehicle was serviced.
First, we discovered that all four wheels were not properly balanced. We were made aware of this while having other work done on the truck at a local auto shop.
Second, the new lug nuts that they installed are now rusting, and look as if they are a couple of years old, when in actuality they were installed only five weeks ago.
This leaves me questioning the quality of the services, and products that this location offers. I'll be contacting customer service to request a refund for the lug nuts, especially since they weren't cheap.
After receiving a review response from Discount Tire headquarters, and a call from the manager at the Discount Tire in Traverse City, we took our truck back in today. (2/22/2023)
As before, all the employees were very friendly and helpful. After informing them about the condition of the lug nuts that they installed, we were offered a full refund. They also offered to install a new set, but informed us that the new set would also rust like the first set did.
We decided to just take the refund, and we'll be purchasing new lug nuts at a later date from another source.
While the service that we experienced here was good, I still find it hard to believe that a company would knowingly sell an inferior product, especially for the price of $160.00 for...
