Before starting I want to say that one of the guides we had for our tour was in training. I understand it must be hard to learn all the information enough to become an expert so I won't drag him down - I'm sure he'll be perfectly when he's been doing it longer. I'm a psychic medium and I host a paranormal podcast, Huz Ghost Stories. On our show we love talking about ghost stories, legends, and visiting haunted locations throughout the tri-state area. I came to this museum with my wife to scout it out. I hadn't heard of this museum before but it sounded like it would make a great topic for an episode. If nothing else it sounded like an interesting stop to make on our anniversary trip. Overall, I was left disappointed with our experience. When we first entered the building there was no one in the gift shop. I wasn't sure if the tour guides also ran the gift shop or if they were closing soon. We were about to leave when the worker came out of the back. The next tour was only a few minutes away so we happily booked it for $15/ticket. Our two guides were very friendly and kind - I was excited to have them leading the tour. Once we got inside the exhibit itself I started to get disappointed. First there were no lights except for the guides' flashlights. They said they couldn't have the main lights on because of the sensitive items they had. Which is understandable but as a museum it should really have some way to see the items properly. We could only see the item they were talking about. Adding to that - they only talked about a fraction of the items in the room. Our tour was about 45 minutes long but only some of the items got any attention. The items themselves are sitting on metal shelves with little name tags - there aren't really any special cases, displays, or placards for the items. I thought the information the guides provided could've been better. They explained what the haunted item caused and talked about any special cases involving it. However, in most cases they didn't talk about the item's history very much. Like how "Spooky" (the owner) came into possession of the items. They would say items were sent to them or that Spooky finds them on their travels. But it would be cool to hear that for each item. How did Spooky find out about this item? How did the owner learn about Spooky to send the item in? The details given were a bit on the bland/generic side so extra information like that would be great. Lastly, the spirits in the room weren't happy. They didn't necessarily feel evil or malevolent towards us but they weren't happy to be in the museum. I had an interaction with Goldie where she tapped the back of my head repeatedly. Upon turning around and looking at her doll, the spirit just kind of said "meh, would you look at this." The spirits I saw and felt just weren't happy there. I think if they were given better displays or something that the energy would change. It felt like any spirits around just wanted to be respected but they felt like they were chucked in a closet. I can't comment on every item in there because the tour shows off so little - plus not all of the items are haunted. At least they were up front about it when showing off something that wasn't haunted. I think some improvements can be made that would improve both the customer experience and the experiences of any spirits in the museum. Maybe down the line if some things are changed I'd be interested in giving it another chance or at least sharing it...
Read moreThe price was $30 per person and there were 4 of us in the group I was in. The tour itself was pretty good. The tour guide was nice and told us everything we asked, although you could tell that not everything has much of a story. A flashlight was used to guide the tour, which made it feel a little corny and made me feel sick tbh We were surprised to hear the tour guide say that no pictures are allowed. The tickets were kind of ridiculously overpriced, so you’d think the least they’d let you do is take pictures. It explicitly says on the RECEIPT: Q. Are we permitted to take photos while on the tour? A. Absolutely! In fact we highly encourage it as you may very well capture a ghostly image or two!! We all planned on documenting this and I planned on documenting it for my YouTube channel next Friday for my curious audience so that sucks. They would have loved it and it certainly would have attracted business. Some of the stuff was a little underwhelming. Keep in mind this is a private business, so it’s not like a huge museum. It’s pretty warm in there too since it’s in a metal enclosure. You can tell the stuff isn’t haunted, but to have the story to go along with it was nice. The tour guide Kyle was really great he deserves a raise. Overall I had a good experience. Once again i wish they honored taking pictures like promised, but the items were pretty creepy, so I think I’ll remember them. A surprising amount of non-Gettysburg items (a potential good thing if you want a break from overdone gettyburg items. Had the ticket been not so overpriced, the review would have been 5/5, but I can’t get over the $30 a piece entry fee like HOLY CRAP. If you pay $30 for this for each person, that’s a lot. Based on my experience here I would say the tour was probably worth half the price. Maybe $15. Overall I enjoyed though and I’m sure you would too if you enjoyed a casual story-based creepy mini-tour...
Read moreLovers of history and the paranormal, this is the stop for you.
The Museum of Haunted Objects is a tiny space packed full of mystery, where you'll be led through their darkened vault to hear tales of objects that appear to be mundane while carrying a chill down your spine.
For a short review: This is a fun stop in your adventures in Gettysburg and a must see if you are a fan of the paranormal.
For a long review:
Our tour guide was Dom who started out a bit prickly as it seemed to be a last minute guiding for him, but once we got into it he had a snarky charm and clear enjoyment of his job. He handled some crying kids extremely well and was able to power through to make sure everyone on the tour could stay in engaged with it. He was fun to banter with, and I even got him with one my classic "I'm an orphan" jokes.
He was great.
Some things to be aware of, this tour does wind through shelving units in their vault. It isn't enough space to gather together so often you'll be in a line leaning to listen in, but Dom was great at moving and looking everyone to keep our focus.
The one thing that kept me from giving a 5 star review, was I'm a bit disappointed in my purchasing of a "VIP Tour." Really, the only thing you get out of it that others won't is choosing which objects to talk about, but I felt I didn't pick great, picking some mundane objects that didn't have a lot of history to them.
If I'm ever able to return, I'll get the standard tour, because the tour guides honestly know better than me in terms of the best choices.
Truly though I loved this experience and I would love to go again and maybe do some of their midnight activities. It was a highlight of my trip and well worth the...
