Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is worth the hype 👻 I’ve stayed in all of the hotels in downtown Gettysburg where most of the fighting occurred, and I know which ones are actually haunted!! Ask me in the comments if you dare. 🤨 #gettysburgpa #hauntedplaces #hauntedamerica #ghostlyencounters #ghosthunting

We have stayed at this Inn a couple of times in the past while visiting Gettysburg. The location is great. It is in the middle of the town so you can walk to just about everything. It is a short drive to the Cemetery where Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address and to the Battlefield that you can do your own driving tour of it narrated by the app which you can download. As for the Inn itself we noticed a lot of changes being made by the new owners. The first is that check in is now contactless. You are emailed the code to get into the building or room. Next is that breakfast is no longer included in the price of the room the way it is with every other B&B we have every stayed in. Now there is an additional $18 per person charge added to the cost if you elected to have breakfast there. Pay attention to the wording under the Book a Room button on the home page before you make your reservation. I did not and was surprised to find out later that this was the case. We did not add the option and had breakfast at the Lincoln Diner in town ($13.00 for the 2 of us). Breakfast at the Inn during our prior visits was included and was very good. They say their new policy is due to inflation and rising cost so they want to give their guests the option of paying the added cost for breakfast while keeping their room rates lower. The two buildings that make up the Inn are historic and stately but the new owners are painting the trim around the windows of the Welty House blue and the covering of the decks with red, white and blue stripes. It looks sloppy and does not retain the stately and period correct look of the building. They also removed all of the plantings and the pond in the yard which were very nice and are still seen in the pictures on the web site. As for our room, we were in the Alabama room. It is very dark and a bit run down. The rug was filthy, the paint on the walls was cracked and chipping off. The bathroom is small and I find it a bit unsanitary to have extra rolls of toilet paper sitting on the floor even though they were still fully wrapped in paper. The linens on the bed were also not a crisp clean white color like everywhere else that we stay. They were a dark gray color. During our prior visits we did stay in the Texas and North Carolina rooms which were in better condition. Not sure if we will be back to Gettysburg in the future since this was our 3rd time staying there but if we do we will probably not stay at The Brickhouse Inn.

This is a very charming inn that feels as if you've stepped into the historic past of the surrounding location. A very authentic experience from the exterior surrounding gardens, brick patio and porch swing to the double staircases and sitting areas within the Inn. We stayed in the Maryland room on the 2nd floor and enjoyed the bay window views that overlooked the hustle and bustle of activity on the street below. The beds was super comfortable and we enjoyed a full night's rest. It was a very cold April day outside but the temps in the room were perfect. The enclosed bathroom area only provides the toilet and shower so the sink/mirror is located inside the room as was possibly most inns of the time. This may/may not be convenient for some. The bath area however was very well ventilated and heated for taking a shower. The lighting was not super bright but that would be a preference thing. Overall, the room was a bit small to maneuver around in but the charm and history of the place more than made up for that. The breakfasts that we had the 2 days we stayed were excellent! Don't miss out! We enjoyed lovely conversations at the table with other travelers and especially enjoyed our host Melanie. So sweet and accommodating! We cannot say enough about the entire friendly staff there! And don't miss out with at least 1 glass or 2 of evening champagne with Sam. Very entertaining! We loved our stay and highly recommend!

Our 4 night stay in the Texas room at the brickhouse inn was only "fine". We left feeling quite disappointed. If you're looking only for a place to sleep at night, its a decent and safe place. If you're looking for hotel convenience (easy access to a staff member for assistance, house keeping), Id recommend looking elsewhere.

To start, everyone we interacted with was very plesent.

Our first night there we went to the welty house and put in our code to get into the building which did not work. After driving over 9 hours were ready to call it a day and relax. I tried calling the number, but no one answered and so I sent a text. I didn't get an immediate response so I went to find someone and thankfully being a Saturday night someone was there, Sam, the inn keeper. Sam got us into our building and room and luckily the key for the room also comes with a key to the building. Sam said he would get us a building code that worked, but that was never followed up on which was disappointing. I was texted back about 20 minutes after we got into the room by someone from the inn number asking if we were able to get in, so at least they did eventually respond.

The next morning we were to have breakfast in bed. When i scheduled it, I was told it would be served between 8-9am and to let them know when we would want it. The day before I texted and asked what time I could schedule breakfast in bed for and was then told it would be between 915-930. Which, was a bit of a bummer because we didnt want to sit around for most of the morning and I had booked it with the understanding it could be as early as 8am. At 935 we still had nothing brought to our room so I texted and they rresponded they would follow up and to let them know if, in another 15 minutes, we received it. By 9:55am we still had not recieved our breakfast and didnt want to keep waiting around on our first day there so we left. I was able to get a refund for the breakfast in bed (total $66) and they did apologize for the mix up. We were scheduled to have breakfast again on Tuesday on the patio, but again it wasnt until 9:15 so we skipped because we didnt want to sit around all morning and we didnt have faith breakfast would be on time, even though it was promised they would make it up to us at the tuesday breakfast.

Towards the end of our visit we had some food waste to throw out from takeout we had, but we only had tiny trashcans and bags in our room. I called, but again couldn't reach anyone so I texted to ask how to dispose of food waste. I was told to wrap them up in a kitchen bag and I could put them in a trash can out behind the building in the parking lot. Since I didn't bring my own kitchen trashbag, I went over to the main house to tey and find one. However, there appeared to be no one there. I finally found someone who was able to give me only 2 small tashcan bags. That evening the champagne social was cancelled because no one was there and the young lady who provided me with my small bags said she'd be leaving at 630pm.

Overall, its fun to stay in a historic building. However, I would MUCH prefer the convenience of a hotel next time and having someone right there to help us with any needs. For the price (over $800 for 4 nights), I just cant recommend staying here based on our experience and we wont be back. It just feels unclear what you're paying for when nothing is included and service on site is lacking. Again, if you're only looking for a spot to lay your head at night, than its good enough, but I think a hotel would be more comfortable and less of a hassel. It felt more like renting a room in someone elses house or in a boarding house rather...

Best bed and breakfast in Gettysburg (and one of the best in PA). We stayed for a week and although there is always room for improvement, this was as close you can get to a perfect 10 in our opinion- all around perfect stay with everything you need and want. ||There is NO BETTER LOCATION - they literally mean the heart of historic Gettysburg - just a thousand feet from the battlefield and soldiers cemetery, a couple hundred feet to Dobbin House Tavern and other historic buildings like the Jennie wade house, farnesworth, tillie pierce, and shriver. And you could see ice cream, shops, gas station, and restaurants from the front door which had swing chairs right on main Baltimore street! ||Free private parking lot just feet from the main buildings (one Victorian and one Civil War era), we each had a suite with private balcony, rocking chairs, ceiling fans, claw foot bathtub (which all had showers attached), extremely comfy mattresses, and very homey Victorian decorations. Some stayed in the Civil War era Welty House complete with bullet holes on the brick outside! The Delaware had a private entrance accessible from the outside. It was a bit rainy, so we didn’t use the hot tub outside, but we did warm up at the fire pit and got free champagne (or honey mead) at the social hour. ||We were planning on using self check-in but arrived before 5pm and there was a gentleman about to start the evening social hour with champagne who helped us to our rooms and answered many questions about the history! We did the free coffee, tea, cookies, and grab and go simple breakfast that was included on most days so we could enjoy breakfast in town, but I wish we had paid for the delicious 3-course breakfast every day. It was heavenly and the cook/innkeeper has been there for 20 years! They had civil war films playing on the living room tv and there were plenty of games available- perfect for a rainy day. ||We did a few of the tours offered (history, drink tour, and ghost tour). ||Just all around amazing stay that had everything you need and more. Highly recommend and will be returning...
