Let me first say this was one of the cleanest establishments we have ever stayed in and that is huge for me. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. I made the reservation over the phone about a week before the trip. The woman I spoke with, that I am pretty sure was an owner, emphasized what a good deal we were getting since they had a cancellation. Price seemed average the for that date based on my research. We called as requested when minutes out and were met in the parking area. The Owners also run an ice cream shop nearby and she appeared in a hurry to get back. The parking is in back of the main house and we must go to the front to get in. I can see this being an issue for someone disabled. The main house has bedrooms and the communal breakfast area and lounge. Nice area to eat and the enclosed porch was especially nice. The breakfast and snack area is always available. The choices are heavy on Little Debbie cakes and cereal, toast and bagels. There was yogurt. Not a lot of fresh items like fruit. We are not coffee drinkers, so no opinion on that. We were then taken to our room, This was the last time we saw anybody who worked there. The Traveller Room is located on the lower level of the detached building (maybe previouly a garage?) by the parking area. There are 2 rooms there and an occupied apt upstairs. My heart sank when she opened the door. lt was a very tiny space, filled with mismatched furniture that could have purchased at garage sales. A small hallish area led to a back door onto a deck and to the bathroom. Bathroom was decent sized. The flooring in the bedroom was some kind of linoleum that did not go all the way to the walls, but left a gap of a couple inches. The curtains on the tall windows looked like plain pieces of hemmed cloth and did not do much to keep out the light or headlights that could come very close to the building. We found the bed linens to be of low quality and the bed uncomfortable. The pillows were hard and uncomfortable also. The lighting was comprised of 1 dim lamp or overhead lighting like in a garage. The bath towels were plentiful but very worn, and the hand soap was watered down. Water pressure was fine. Basically, the whole place seemed like a cheap college apartment. I also had an issue with the breakfast area. It was set up like it was your own house, with ice cube trays in the fridge (those 2 trays were the only ice available), bagels and bread in the store packaging, some cereals in boxes like home, some single serve. Pastries from the grocery store in the store packaging. This meant that anyone staying there could have handled the food and ice. There has to be a more hygienic way. On the plus side, the location was excellent, between the Battlefield area and downtown. Based on my experience, I doubt I would stay here again. It was like a weird mix of an Air B&B and a regular B&B. Personally, for the price, I for sure would not stay in the room we were in again. I get cutting corners for a small business, but this was over the top. And I would not plan on...
Read moreI took my first solo trip across the country to attend a wedding. Staying at the Sleepy Hollow Manor made this trip so relaxing. I stayed in the Travelers Room directly behind the manor in the carriage house. It was so quaint and sparkling clean. I loved the little patio. It was the perfect spot for morning coffee. I felt completely safe there, just steps away from the main street. Plenty of places in walking distance for meals or shopping. It was so convenient to park in the parking lot at the Manor and walk everywhere. The breakfast room was stocked full all day long with yummy treats, fruit, coffee and tea. The owners are kind, warm and welcoming people. | They made me feel right at home. Tom checked me in and gave me an excellent recommendation for dinner at the Farnsworth House, just across the street from the Manor. Although you'll be staying right in the center of town, it was nice and quiet at night. It was such a pleasant experience to wake up to Church bells ringing on Sunday morning. I am already making plans to return with my husband. Truly the best place to stay...
Read moreLocation, Location, Location!! Wow. Enough off the main street to be quiet, close enough to walk to everything. It's five minutes to walk to the square and Wainright Ave (goes to the battlefield) is right out back, so everything is walkable. Great parking which is really a plus in Gettysburg. Owners are incredibly hospitable and kind. Rooms are CLEAN. Mini fridge was great to keep cold water for hiking the battlefield. Rooms are also spacious and well stocked with linens and toiletries. There are so many quiet places to sit outside and ice cream shop is a stones throw away for an evening snack. Main kitchen is stocked full of goodies for breakfast or just a snack. We will definitely stay here again. We've stayed at several Gettysburg B&Bs and this one is...
