I do not typically write reviews but this time, I felt the need to after the issues we had. We stayed 2 nights. Where should I start-The positives-It was within walking distance of pretty much everything on Baltimore street. The shower head was nice and the water stayed hot. There was a fridge and microwave in the room.. The person on duty at the front desk was very helpful in telling me about local places to eat that were kid friendly and pointing me to a local shopping center when needed. The negatives-#1-The WIFi stinks. My son could not connect at all with his game nor could I upload any pictures.. Plus, I am suspecting they turn it off at night because between 9:00pm Friday, and approximately 2:00pm on Saturday, the network did not even show up on any of our devices. If it was just a small issue and still on, wouldn't the network still have been detected? #2.There is no alarm clock in the room, only the microwave clock, which was not set. #3-see the pic of what the continental breakfast is. Yes, it is true. I swear on the Bible. Two choices of just those items, plus coffee. No fresh fruits, donuts or muffins. We ended up going to the McDonalds down the road because the kids wanted to eat quick but did not like the choices that were offered. #4. As of 4:00pm, our room was not cleaned or fresh towels were not brought. I had to go ask for them. We were on the battlefield from 9:00-2:00, plenty of time to bring fresh towels, vacuum and empty the trash. Room finally got cleaned at 4:40pm as we were on our way out. #5. Ice costs 25 cents. #6. The pool had beer bottle caps at the bottom. My son enjoyed diving down and collecting them. #7. Upon double checking that we packed everything, my son found more beer bottle caps on the floor under the overflow of the comforter. I will also say, when we first got to the room, my son noticed a cheeto on the floor under the sink. overlooked it because i know vacuums sometimes miss things. But to find beet bottle caps?? It makes me wonder if our room was even vacuumed after the last occupants left. #8 In order to charge a phone or laptop, you had to unplug the microwave or lamp. #9-My son noticed the sign was held on by 2 ratchet straps-as you can see by the picture. #10. The air conditioner is above the bathroom counter out of reach. It is not automatic. My son had to climb up on the counter to turn it on and off. I guess I should have realized when I booked and the price was so cheap. It is an old motel and could use updates, and I expected that. However, it is one thing to have a budget motel but then to have all these issues, is another. I understand it is a small motel, not some big chain, however, one would think with all the other competition in the area, they would step up their game. I get they might not be making as much money or be charging as much money as the bigger chain hotels but it should not show in the quality of your establishment and this clearly did. It seemed as though they were were doing the bare minimum to get by and hardly making it. I will never stay here again and would not recommend...
Read moreI have mixed feelings on this hotel.
Initially I was concerned since I called in to book a room and the person on the line (I think it was Jim, the owner or co-owner) would not send me a receipt and generally didn't seem to have any patience for questions (later when meeting him in person he seemed a bit cooler, though still a kinda weird dude). It didn't turn out to be a big deal... but for some reason the quote I got on the phone was $10 less than what they finally charged my card when I showed up. I was in a rush so I didn't notice until later. I have no idea what this $10 extra charge was - maybe a tip for the workers? No matter. Just keep this in mind when booking, that they may charge you more at the door...
The location of the place is superb, in the middle of many shops, restaurants, museums - no complaints - but the room is, as you would expect with a "budget" hotel, old and primitive. What was most startling coming in was the intense mold smell when opening the door... it seemed as if the room hadn't been ventilated in months. I stamped a big spider by the wall and opened the ancient window. Fortunately after an hour or two the smell was mostly gone... and we were fine. Beds were soft and comfortable... but my friend woke with a few ugly bites on her legs. Fortunately I was saved... but we don't know what this was. BE WARNED: BED BUGS. First night was quiet, but second the neighbors next to us decided to blast their TV to late hours. I was relieved that it was the last day we were there.
Here are the general pros/cons:
CONS: Possible bed bugs or fleas (problem #1) Paper-thin walls Mold/air quality issues (not that big a deal in spring/autumn when you can open the window) Very small refrigerator No boiling water or microwave No coffee machine (only available in office) No hotel phone No alarm clock Micro-size soap/shampoo (bring your own) Air conditioner from 50s/60s (didn't use it, thankfully!)
Pros: Great location Good sized room Nice QUIET baseboard heating (as good if not better than in pricey hotels) Generally friendly/helpful staff
Would I go again? Only if there were no other option. The bed issue is a huge problem and something they need to address immediately. Hopefully someone there sees this review and...
Read moreHotel room was clean and has been somewhat updated. Our issues came more with amenities, such as towels and toilet paper. We arrived later in the afternoon and wanted to get some touring done before dark, so we put our stuff in the room and left. Upon returning to our room, we saw there were only 2 shower towels…..we had 3 people in our party. I sent my son to the office to request another towel. He was told by the “manager” that there were no towels available. Not sure how a hotel doesn’t have towels but that was totally unacceptable. We ended up using a swim towel we brought. Later, before 11, my son saw there was hardly any toilet paper left on the roll. Now, we hadn’t used the bathroom in our room yet. There were no spare rolls of toilet paper. By this point the office was closed. We tried to call the office number to get someone. There is no emergency line at all. Again, thankfully I brought wipes with us to get us thru the night. In the morning, my husband went to the office to ask for a towel and toilet paper. He was greeted by the same manager who my son dealt with the night before and told “you need to talk to housekeeping”. Again, you are the supposed manager so why can’t you get these items? When we were loading the car to leave, the manager glared at us the entire time. Very disappointed in this stay. We’ve stayed here many times over the years without any issues. Due to the managers attitude and cost of the room vs. what we received, we will not be returning. It’s a shame cause we always support...
