Stayed 2/15/2023 Pros...everyone was friendly except 1 person. Rooms were very clean, and a nice note from housekeeping. They are pet friendly($25 pet fee). We stayed on the backside which is more quiet. The breakfast is one of the best we have experienced at a hotel. Nice area out back for pets to use. Cons.... Walls are thin...I literally could hear the upstairs neighbor going to the bathroom. Was not charged the amount quoted. I called and was quoted $63. Asked if I should book and the very nice lady said it was not needed because it was midweek and off season. We stop and pick up some necessities and dinner, but when we check in a few hours later, the lowest price found was $73. Here's where the problem starts...The next morning as I was checking out, I asked why the difference. Sara said " He(Jared) is just a high school kid." Then, grabbed some papers and ignored me. Wow! I was in shock. No.."I'm sorry"...or, "let me check". I had to say excuse me about 5 times before she glared at me just to ask for my receipt. Not only did she disrespect me, but she disrespected a coworker and threw him under the bus! Wake up call!!!!!! In times where good employees are hard to find, you need to appreciate that young man. He was professional, polite, and made us feel welcome. She ruined what would have been a 5 star review and a wonderful memory.
Edit for response from manager.. I knew the lady was the same, that is why I kindly pointed to the extreme difference hoping it was a kind reminder.Unfortunately you have chosen to be attacking and defensive. I can only assume the phone call was just luck, and this is your true attitude. Second, when I checked in, I referenced the quote. When told it didn't exist, he found the best rate he could find which was the AARP rate. Next, I in NO way threw him under the bus. I asked why there was a difference. YOU SAID HE WAS JUST A SCHOOL KID! If rates change then YOU should have informed me of that and I would have made the reservation. Instead, you said that it didn't matter because you were slow.Thank you for admitting in your response that it was a "limited manager's special". Which means YOU could quote that amount, but not your employees. I have clearly stated how much I appreciated the kindness and professionalism of Jared. I hope everyone reading your response sees that you feel their $10 is of no concern to you and ANY question they would have in regards to fees and charges will be considered ridiculous and "minor". As far as the "discount" that I supposedly was not warranted to receive, it was not a discount. It was your rate quote. The receipt was on your part of the desk, but not where a guest could reach it. So, I had to gain your attention to actually put it through the opening in the plexiglass. Anyone can read the other reviews to see despite it being a concrete structure, there is zero insulation and you can plainly hear your neighbors. Anyone can also read your responses to everyone else expressing concerns and see the pattern of defend and attack. Hopefully you do not continue to mislead people, because there is NOT a microwave in every room. Just another "minor" observation.Despite what happened, I would have stayed there again, because everyone else was very nice. Unfortunately, your defensive and attacking answer shows me ,and others, what they can expect. I sincerely hope you treat the staff better, and that the owners take note of this before they lose some wonderful...
Read moreI arrived at the hotel. A gentleman came to the corner of a balcony above me started yelling at me and accused me of moving cones. I explained to the gentleman that the cones that were in the spot next to where I just parked. Were there the spot in which I parked? My car had no cones. It was empty. That's why I parked there. He walked away. Came back called me a liar and told me to park there. He doesn't care. I went into the hotel lobby to Check-in. Explain to the front desk. The gentleman that was yelling at me. Just happened to be getting coffee in the lobby when I was explaining to the front desk. What occurred? I told them. I don't know if this was an employee. Or you have an angry drunk guest on your balcony yelling at people. I do believe this person was intoxicated. There was a lot of Saint Patrick celebration and I think he joined in. Front desk was no help. He told me that he would go in the back. To review the video tape which I had asked him to do. He then came from the back 2 seconds after getting there and says I'm not a manager. I can't look at the tapes. I don't understand why he told me he was going to do this. He told me that a manager would get in touch with me as soon as he came in. This occurred on a Saturday. I was checking out on Sunday told me the manager doesn't get there on Monday. I asked him. How does that help me? Why don't you email somebody? Why don't you do something? He said he wasn't allowed to do anything. The only thing he could do is if there's a fire. He can call the fire department. This person was completely inexperienced and did not know how to handle the situation and did not know how to handle. What I think was a drunk employee. The Employee at the front desk stood there. While this person maintenance person was calling me a liar, accusing me of moving cones in front of my son, who was special needs and was trying to figure out why this person was saying these things. We did not move cones. He accused me of lying several times and then one finally confronted. Look at the video tape. I did not move anything. He says that doesn't matter. You're not supposed to park there. How am I supposed to know that?If I am a new arriving guest. And the spot is empty.I did move my car after them.Explaining that they need those spots empty.I have no problem with that, but this person verbally attacked me.Accuse me of lying and never identified himself as an employee.I just thought he was a random drunk person on the balcony of...
Read moreI wanted to add to my review but cant seem too...when i said they werent cleaning the rooms daily because of staff...they WOULD upon request...but we have been ok with just getting clean towels...also I just read a review about the bikers taking handicapp parking...I do not see that happening & yes it is biker WEEK here...so every hotel has bikers...there are thousands in town...i dont think you could find a hotel in the area without bikers...so it has nothing to do with catering to them they are all over...its important to ask whats going on in the area when you book so you can better decide if its the right time to come, but the whole town has bikers
We are back at the 1863 tonight...and were here 2 weeks ago...on our way to & now back from FL....still consistently a great place to stay...The rooms are spacious & very clean...the hot breakfast is always on point with many options, they have hot coffee available in the lobby, I is centrally located... When in Ghettysburg for bike week or passing through...THIS is our spot....We love you 1863! Also...a great price
So we were back at the 1863 this year and we liked our room but this year there was a change with the breakfast we didn’t like….we woke up for breakfast late and didn’t get there till about a quarter to 10 it ends at 10am. My boyfriend loved the waffle machines they had in the Buffett room…when he didn’t see them he asked the girl working there she said something like I didn’t like them they were too messy and just turned and walked away….those waffle machines were always there and probably there for years…she didn’t like them? To much to clean? They instead had an crappy pancake set up that was not good…..also gone from the Buffett was bacon which we always enjoyed. Then when we were eating outside the room she came looked me dead in the eye & closed the door. In the past employees have been friendly…I expected her to say idk do you need anything before I close the door or idk she just seemed either like she hats her job or lacks a good customer service chip either way I was put off by her in her sweatpants…not professional dress or attitude. We drive to FL every year and go a little out of our way to stay there we have also stayed there for bike week. Never saw her before but hoping she quits & they bring back...
