I needed to print out some documents for court (no, I am not in trouble). I've never had a problem with anyone at this Office Depot before. Just before printing my documents, I used the restroom. It was in bad condition. My mother taught me that you leave a place better than it was before you got there, so I straightened it up so that the next person would not have to endure such a state. No biggie. The printer I used would not allow more than one attachment to be printed at a time, it was going to take 5 mins for me to retrieve them all. The 2 young male associates were very sweet in trying to help, but they were unable to speed up the process. No big deal and they did not make me feel uncomfortable. The older female associate (early 60's-ish, pale blondish/grey hair, medium build, about 5'5-5'7 with dark glasses) asked if she could help. I thanked her and told her "no" and that it would take about 5 mins. Her demeanor immediately took a left turn. Breathlessly snarling, she said that the store closed in 3 mins, shifting her weight to gaze at watch while tapping it on it's face with her nail. She then sighed heavily, and went to find one of the other associates to discuss my apparent intrusion. When I entered the store, no one mentioned that it was nearly time to close. I understand that they wanted to go home (who doesn't at the end of the day). However, as old as she is, she could use a little more home training and a tutorial, or two, on how to treat customers. Her behavior was overkill, esp. when the no one said anything when I entered the store. On the other hand, she may come from a time where treating people like me may have been more openly acceptable. Pity... I used to like...
Read moreThis afternoon I went to Office Depot In Gurnee and was warmly greeted by Eric. He offered to help and because I was ready to buy 1000's of dollars in merchandise for charity, he suggested some options that might work best for buying in bulk. He was kind thoughtful and willing to help. (you know, great customer service which is rare these days)
Then I was approached by the "Manager" Scott. Scott informed me that because I was buying so much he needed to remind me of that the sale prices were limited to 6 and anything after that would be regularly priced. I jokingly said then I guess I will have to come back each day unit our free supply event. I had no intention of doing that. I explained to Scott why I was purchasing so many items. and he rudely interrupted stating that "Lake County has plenty of money". What?!!! Scott, surely you're not saying that ALL of lake County is wealthy. Working in outreach and visiting communities less fortunate than mine and obviously Scott's. working in outreach has taken me to many areas in need of assistance. Maybe Scott's earnings at Office Depot put him in the higher echelon and doesn't realize that taking a small burdon such as purchasing school supplies off of parents supports the community. Maybe their child need a 120$ calculator and the money they save from humbling themselves and going to a local supply fair, they would in return spend at the Gurnee Office Depot and Scotts bonus would go up.
I neatly returned the items to their spot and will be taking my business to a different store. I only hope that Office Depot doesnt train all of their managers to...

May I explain: There is a Non-Thinking, mean clerk @ the printing counter, who clearly does not like the job that she expertly fooled a "blind" supervisor, or manager into granting a "hire" position, or servicing people; blows my mind that "she" gets ready to go to work & is conscious that "she" has a job, but presents sheer meanness & degrading behaviors to customers, & she holds a job there (???)! When manager was alerted to problem, though he heard & saw it all & would do nothing. Even after a phone call - still nothing. He simply remained unconcerned, & after listening on phone . . . pause . . . finally said: "I'll have a word with her," a tone so flat, it only reeked of insincerity, his main concern was the taking out of the "card" that gets folks nervous & jumpy. Justice gets burned. In a world where inflation has claimed everything, & continues to do so, Why not offer kindness? - it costs nothing. By the way, was there just the day before & received kind & great service by a very nice young man @ that very...
