I have to say the experience the other day was not as positive as it has been with former visits. Maybe I shouldn't have even given it 4 stars this time honestly. As usual, the atmosphere was pretty relaxing as usual, up until the end when two servers kept coming to the table clearing the entire table and bringing the check and then continuing coming to the table every couple minutes, not really doing anything, but an obvious attempt to shew us out, I'm guessing because they feared we may start eating again and the dinner shift was about to begin. All we really wanted was to just relax and talk with our out of town guest until our stomachs settled for a few minutes before heading out. The real issue was with some of the food however. I, thank goodness, stuck with the hibachi grill and sushi for the most part, but my guest and my husband had gotten several things from the buffet rather than hibachi. Everything they got that was supposed to be hot was either cold or barely warm. My friend got the mussels and when I asked how they were and started to try one, she said, "not good at all and cold" so I decided against it, again thank goodness. Not long after we returned to my house she had to head to the bathroom where she spent, other than a few minutes, the remainder of her visit and was highly concerned about how her almost 3 hour drive home would turn out. My husband got cocktail shrimp on his plate, of course supposed to be cold, but when he started peeling it, he said to me this really stinks and the texture feels really weird. Me, thinking he was just being overly critical said, "eh, give it here I'll try it for you" and, much too quickly bit into the one he had just peeled. I really wish I had paused to feel the texture and smell it before I did that. It was so rotten that the moment it touched my tongue I started gagging and had to immediately spit it into my napkin and embarrassingly had to keep furiously wiping my tongue off. It was so bad I couldn't even hold off long enough to get to the restroom to wash my mouth out and the smell was somewhere between strong ammonia and rotten fish. My husband couldn't even eat any of the other items on his plate because the shrimp stank too bad and instead left the plate at the table and went back to the buffet to get a different plate of food and linger there long enough for the server to remove the tainted plate. The only items I had gotten off the buffet were mushrooms in a brown sauce, which looked delicious and were the last time I ate there, but this time were cold, so not so good, and an egg roll, a stuffed wonton, a chicken wing and what I guess was their version of a beignet. The wonton and egg roll were pretty good, the beignet was delicious and the chicken wing was kind of hard and cold. I'm not sure if their buffet is not heating properly to keep the food hot, or even warm for that matter, or what the issue was, but I've never had that experience there before, so will try again at some point, hopefully with better success, that is if I can get my husband and/or friend to try again after their experience this time. My hibachi and sushi were...
Read moreZamias Services Inc. of Johnstown, Pa, the folks who own and manage the Hagerstown Shopping Center (formerly known as the "Ames Shopping Center" where the old Ames Department store was located.) do not take care of this property very well.
The parking area has been in disrepair for over 21 years with poor lines marked for parking and traffic flow. The lot is never swept by sweeper machines to pick up trash. Signage isn't kept in good repair, often cracked or broken with lights sitting in a burned out for long periods.
Many of Hagerstown City's Homeless population are often found sitting around of the curbs in front of businesses, blocking customers trying to shop the Center's merchants, and even sometimes even attempting to beg cash from...
Read moreAmes Shopping Center is a shopping center (2 rows of stores) located off Dual Hwy near Cleveland Blvd in Hagerstown. Stores located there are a Chinese restaurant, a paint shop, a nail and beauty store, Aldi's supermarket, Auto Zone, a home medical store, Supreme Buffet Restaurant, Wonder Books, Super Shoes, and a few others. It has great stores but I give it only 2 stars because the parking area is in dire need to be completely redone, not just tarred over. Also, the area looks messy. It's a big attraction for panhandlers. It's a shame because it does have good...
