We have eaten here many times over the years and usually have a good experience. But after last night, we won't be back. The meal started great with cups of clam chowder which was great. We eagerly anticipated the rest of our food. We should have left after the soup. I ordered the special which was the "belly buster" fried haddock. Previously, when ordered this, the filet was so large it would extend off the sides of the plate. Not this time. I would have needed a second piece to get that amount of fish. It was fried so hard that the fish inside the battered coating was all dried out. Tartar sauce didn't even help. I had 2 ask 3 times for a drink refill. I had my first drink completed in less than 5 minutes because the cup only had about 5 swallows of liquid because it was overfilled with ice. My husband's meal was absolutely disgusting. He ordered the turkey with filling. What came out was enough to make you lose your appetite. At best, it looked like a pile of pureed bread soaked in water with slices of turkey lunch meat and gravy on top. I kid you not, the whole plate was watery and gross looking. He attempted to eat it despite the appearance, but after 2 bites, pushed it away and gave up. I tried a bite. It was so mushy I didn't have to chew and was absolutely tasteless. No amount of salt and pepper would have helped. He never got his order of applesauce that was to come with it. So he basically had fries for his meal. We never received our dinner rolls that were to come with the entree either. My husband told the waitress about the turkey and how he didn't think the stuffing was even fit for human consumption. Again told the girl who checked us out. He was basically told by one, "I'm new here so I don't know what to say. " And the other said, "To do 'real' turkey is expensive. We have to cut costs somehow." Well keep up the awful food and you won't need to cut costs, because you won't have a diner that anyone will come to. ...
Read moreThe two stars are for the general manager. She is rude, nasty and has zero customer service skills. I'll explain, we drove an hour to the diner in Hagerstown to purchase a gift card for a friend. It was 8:30PM on a Friday. The server told us to purchase the gift card at the register. The cashier stated she did not have access to the gift cards because the general manager locked them in her office. The cashier called the general manager at home to inquire about it. The general manager told us we had to come back the next day. When we explained that we were an hour away and could not come back, she turned rude and said she was in bed and would not be coming out at 9PM at night. She told us to buy the gift card and she would make sure it was in the register for our recipient. We did just that. My husband called the next afternoon to make sure the gift card was in the register. The general manager was angry that my husband called to check. When he asked why she doesn't leave the gift cards for her night staff to sell she replied "I'm not going to defend my business decisions to you. Now, do you want the gift card or not?" When my husband (who was on speaker phone) gave the name of our recipient, the general manager cut him off mid-sentence by snapping "I got their names." WOW, just WOW! She was yelling at him for her poor business decisions. You sell gift cards, but you don't put them out for customers to purchase? We have dined there a number of times. Overall the food is good, typical diner food. Portions are great. Good variety. Servers have always seemed nice to me. However, the night manager and especially the general managers are a disgrace to the hospitality industry. I can't even believe the owners even allow this nonsense. I will think twice before I go back. I will not support a business that does not respect...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. This is the second time I have visited this restaurant and the final. I ordered the Delmonico steak medium rare. It comes with 2 sides . This case I went with coliflour and coleslaw and salad. $17 And some change. Fair for a good size steak. The steak came to me looking as if it we're boiled. Grey outside and slightly pink to tan in the middle. Vile would be the one word to sum it up. As I waited for my waiter to return I ate the salad before the meal, vegies and was working on the coleslaw. I have worked in the food industry and know what a microwaved steak looks like. Dull and without any or much color contrast. I did cut a bite and flavor had been extracted by the freezer to microwave to two short turns on the grill method. I explained the issue and the waiter agreed it looked as bad as it tasted. He asked if he could get anything else and decided to go with a turkey club. Can't screw that up....... I received my club and the bill. I understand that I ate the veggies and salad that was supposed to come with the "steak" so they charged me as if ordered each item ala carte. This reduced my bill from 22.00 to 21.00. for a $8 club sandwich. I am not a petty person but this was uncalled-for and was a slap in the face with what I was served. I would have at least as a manager come over and explain the extortion and reason the took a "not going to show any repentance for the failures before. I would have expected at minimum the salad to be comped but that is apparently not the case at this restaurant.I like family dinning but when the customer is taxed for poorly prepared food with out even a stop at the table, they have dropped the ball. Disappointing customer follow through. Skip it. Hit the pizza joint next door ,so...
