Mia Thai Massage — Attraction in Honolulu

First contact: called the establishment to get pricing and the lady was very generous and offered an extremely affordable price ($180) for a couples massage for 90min and that she’d add hot stones for free. REDFLAG#1. For Hawaii, this amount she offered is an absurdly cheap price tag.

First impression: we were early to our appointment but the lady kindly accepted us almost an hour early. REDFLAG#2. What should be a bustling and busy place was able to accommodate patrons almost too well. Upon entry, no one introduced themselves. We were asked ABSOLUTELY no questions (aches/pains, injuries, medical conditions, our names???). I recently had a back injury and my boyfriend has a very bad shoulder to put this into perspective.

During: from our previous experiences, males have female masseuses and vice versa, however, this was not the case but we went with it, only to find out that the male that was working on my boyfriend didn’t speak a lick of English. REDFLAG#3. This is a safety issue because as mentioned earlier we both had injuries that needed to be avoided. My boyfriend kept stating “that hurts” and grimacing and groaning only to be ignored and scoffed/laughed at. My massage started off subpar but what started off just hands and elbow pressure became feet walking up and down my back and toes shoved under my shoulder blades. I specifically asked for medium pressure, so why unsolicited feet across my back were needed is beyond me. REDFLAG#4. When she finally got off my back I began to feel a sharp pain and could not speak. The worst and scariest part to me was when the lady started to bend and twist my lower body which I thought was just for stretching but before I could say or do anything she was performing chiropractic adjustments on my already injured lower back. REDFLAG#5. I don’t care if this lady had 30 years experience, I DID NOT consent to these adjustments and was terrified of permanent damage. I am stiff and sore AFTER the massage. I am now in terrible pain any way I bend or twist my lower back and am regretfully considering getting an Xray. This establishment needs to be shut down immediately before someone is paralyzed from what should’ve been a relaxing experience.

After: the most rude way to end the experience was simply some thumps on the shoulders that “your 90 min (of torture) is done”. We quietly paid for their time and left in pain and furious. What we thought was a pre-arranged parking spot for Mia Thai Massage patrons seemed to be an ongoing issue and disagreement between the parking garage staff and the establishment.

Overall: if you’re on vacation or just need self-care, pay the extra money and do your research and DO NOT be taken advantage of by this...

I have never been so disrespected! What a shame, the level of service from the time we walked thru the doors. We never greeted and was told to go in the room, a couples massage room. I came with my dear friend, we were celebrating our Birthdays and this was the end of our Bday trip. We waited so long for someone to attend to us I fell asleep. Then a man came in and my friend wanted a male therapist so we thought they were starting. The man left and a few minutes later a lady said give us a minute. The 2 ladies were nice but unprofessional. The services was to include a body and foot massage for 2 hours 120 minutes. My masseuse massaged my back slow long, and then the two change to the other woman and thought we didn't know. The was a lot of in and out the room and I opened my eyes to see what was going on since I was laying the with most of my body parts showing. To my surprised I had the lady my friend initially had, and she continued on my back and buttocks. I my back started hurting. After a few adjustments and placing a pillow under my belly I noticed the treatment was getting less ambitious. I see my therapist with her elbow massaging me and the other texting! Then I noticed the other therapist going to town with a comb on my friends head, for a long time. Then she thought my friend enjoyed it and gestured to my masseuse ridiculing her. I do not recall her asking for an intense hair combing. Anyway I was not comfortable my stomach started to ache. Not sure if it was from my lunch earlier or the tap water they gave us. I just wanted to go I was appalled , the man who came in on us had bought us some cold delicious water, and halfway through my friend ask for some more. They never touch my head my shins, or my feet and at this point my back and butt was so irritated I was over it. I get it people have bad days, but I think they just didn't care. This spa is located in a building where there are numerous other Spa/ massage therapy . Do yourself a favor do a little more research and...

Would give 1 star but the massage was decent. First off, we booked a honeymoon couple’s massage package through them. When we arrived, they had lost our appointment and had nothing prepared for our massage and opted to give us a normal massage. While attempting to look up our appointment and after telling us to undress for our massage, they walked in on us while we were fully undressed not in the bed yet and stood there staring at us until I gave them the phone number I booked under. It was super uncomfortable.

Then during the massage, they kept trying to sell me extra things, like scented oil and hot stones, DURING the massage. You’d think you wouldn’t have to deal with a sales person during half of a massage. And when I tried to say no, they kept saying they didn’t know English and didn’t understand me. They knew enough English to sell something to me but not enough for me to say “no”?

At the end of the massage, they asked me how much I wanted to tip, I verbally told them a number, and they said the minimum tip allowed was 25% and then pressed it for me, so I had no choice in my tip.

Also, the pictures are misleading, they never drew any blinds for the aesthetic of overlooking the city, you couldn’t see any of it.

And, and I can chalk this up to a different culture of massages, but during the massage, the lady walked on my back, arms, and legs which hurt a lot, and also they left the whole back of my body exposed for over half of the massage.

Safe to say, I wouldn’t recommend, and I am unsure how the ratings are so good for this place, because this is the worst experience I’ve ever had...
