Hood River Distillers Tasting Room — Attraction in Hood River

Let's start with they dropped Pendleton Whiskey a couple years ago I was told, sold off to Jose Cuervo but not updated on their website until less than a month ago. 44 Degree North Idaho vodka is still on the website but is not sold and not in their tasting room because it's from Idaho, once again so I was told. Double Mountain Hopped Whiskey is only made on a limited basis and I was told they sold out a month ago back in September 2021. The website they have seems to be lacking in being updated, possibly bait and switch?, their whiskey is nothing special and the tasting room has fruit flies buzzing around and landing in your tasting glasses. The help do not know their liquor history or background and tell you that what they do not have in stock you can go down the road and by at the liquor store. To top this all off as I was leaving after being thoroughly disenchanted by the selection they had and being mislead by the websites information as well as coming all the way from Klamath Falls, they had me pay them to try the poor selection of spirits they had. The whole trip up to see Hood River Distillers was a complete fail and would have been even worse if I hadn't already visited the New Basin Distillers in Madras which is everything great that Hood River Distiller is not and worth the drive. Oh and New Basin doesn't charge you anything for trying...

Very nice tasting room with a wide selection of spirits and cocktails (or mocktails for the driver). $2 per sample (0.5 oz), $3 per mini cocktail, and $6 for a full sized mocktails. All of it was delicious.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff complete the experience.

We tried the timberland vodka (good), clear creek pear brandy (excellent), old delicious bourbon barreled apple brandy (good), trail's end Oregon oak finished bourbon 10 year (very good), McCarthy's single barrel select (cask strength - very peaty but very good/smooth), McCarthy's Oregon single malt whiskey 6 year (very good) and big gin (excellent). Our stop at HRD was one of our trip highlights. Located off Oak St in Hood River, they were super accommodating for our party of six when we dropped by for a tasting without a reservation! You choose 5 items from their menu per tasting - they have a variety of spirits or you can choose mini cocktails off their seasonal cocktail menu - the mini cocktails are a must try because they are so creative! Our server did an amazing job explaining the different types of spirits, sharing the history of the distillery and giving mixed drink suggestions for each.
